Been a while. How you buzzards doing?!

Had a funny experience the other day that only you will appreciate.

In a sugar maple, blow a big top, top falls and goes tips down, dead branch sticking out of the canopy breaks off as the tips hit the ground and the thing is thrown at me HARD as if it were a spear. Coming right at my head, so I, without missing a beat snatch it out of the air spin it with its own momentum and pitch it back from whence it came! LIKEKINGGOTDAMKONG! Pure reflexes, very little skill involved, just good hand eye apparently.

It was awesome, unfortunately no helmet cam. The groundie did see it happen though. I was very excited, needless to say. Just had to share.

Funny that you posted today. Was wondering where you got to while up a tree this very day!
 
I had a day full of those working with the crane today, taking trees down that had some sketchy tops.
Unfortunately the last time heroics could have came into play for me, they did not and I caught the limb with my face.

But protos face shield for the win friends! I live to climb another day unscathed.

That sounds awesome. Why is it that stuff like that so often happens off camera? I feel like it is some law or superstition sort of thing like if you bring an umbrella it doesn't rain...if you are recording nothing awesome happens, yet when you switch the camera off superhero stuff comes to life.

Just the other day I was setting a line in a tree and everyone was watching me, Mr. and Mrs. Homeowner, my business partner, and the neighbor etc. They watch me get my gear out, set up the throw line cube...I ready myself to make the throw, send it up through the perfect TIP, I give it a quick stop and the bag comes gracefully back through in a fluid motion isolating the limb and gliding right back to me... first shot, difficult but I made it look easy, shocked myself really (although I am pretty amazing with a throw line). Anyway, I turn around to say, "Did you see that?" Nobody is in sight. The owners went in side for that moment, my partner was on the other side of the truck, and the neighbor was gone. Nobody saw it and you guessed it, I wasn't recording. It was a high TIP too. Life is funny.
