How To Generate More Business For Your Arborist Business

Hi Guys,

I took the time to write a little post about some of the problems I'm seeing you have in this subsection of the forum. I hope these will benefit you thanks.

How To Generate More Business For Your Arborist Business

Everyone needs business to make money because your customers pay for your lively hood. This post is going to describe some of the online ways you can generate more business for your arborist business.

Have A Website

This is a no-brainer for many of you, but you would be surprised to see how many businesses do not have a website. How often are you given the chance for something free when running a business? A website gives you free advertising and it allows you to showcase what makes you unique, and why someone should buy from you instead of the other million other arborists businesses.

Optimize Your Site

Now that you have your website, it’s time to make sure people can find you on the web. When writing content for your site, describe your products and services the way people would search for them. You may know it as something else but go by the common name, which a normal person would know outside of the arborist profession.

Next, it’s time to optimize your title tag and meta description. The title tag is the first text you see in the search results and that's often blue. This is one of the most important factors in ranking your website/that specific web page. Make sure you put the most relevant keywords for the page in this tag. Next is the meta-description, which is below the website. While it is not used for ranking directly, it does entice someone to click through to your specific page. Make sure to put a relevant description of the page as well a clear call to action why they should visit that page.

Create a Facebook Business Page

Facebook is for more than just your teenage daughter’s favorite place to talk her best friends about the latest gossip at her school: it’s a free way of generating traffic to your site. Facebook allows you to create your own Facebook Business Pages. This is a perfect way for you to share the last content and news from your business and send people to your site. It also can help you with your off- site optimization for your website.

Create a Google Plus Business Page

The way google ranks local businesses is using Google plus business pages. These often appear in ‘packs’ in the regular search results. They also appear in the maps search, when you search via maps. So, if you don’t have one you can be assured that you’re losing business to one of your competitors.

Once you have created a page, you then need to rank the page. You can do that via citations, which is any mention of your business name, address and phone number. The search engines then find these mentions of your business and start to rank you. Usually the more you have the better, but the business with the most citations may not always rank first. Other things that play into to your ranking are links to your site, as well as the various reviews of your business around the web.

Conclusion

With this information, you should have enough to get you started in generating more traffic and sales for your business. If you have any questions about this information, please comment on this thread so I can answer them. I can also be reached via private message. Thanks and good luck!

I especially like how he demonstrated that he knows our business inside and out, and didn't just use a templated article, substituting "arborist" for "hog semen technician" or "fluffer".

Actually appreciate the info Peter. Had a meeting today about all this... I am starting to understand SEO a little clearer now. Signed up for a new site that should be launched 2-3 months.

Are you a Web and marketing guy? If so, do you know how important is blogging to the website?

Hi Stumped,

I am a web/marketing guy. I would say it's not as important as people make it out to be.blogging one to two times a month is fine. It more just helps with keeping the content on your site fresh, which helps google because they love fresh content, especially for local businesses. This is a great blog post that goes into more detail about how often to blog, which is along the same lines that I recommend http://diythemes.com/thesis/how-often-should-you-update-your-blog/

Sorry Stumped having trouble understanding the first part. for the second part, possibly. I feel it would be more a correlation than anything. As long as they're engaged and they're staying on pages long enough and completing the desired action yes. If not, it may not benefit as much. I wouldn't overthink it though. Blog when you can about things that may interest your customers.
