How high can you throw ball?

I'm working on improving my throw ball skills. Both for jobsite efficiency, and because I plan on trying out competitions. I was half decent at one point and it seems I have been getting steadily worse over the years. Part of it is that I got a slingshot and started using that for anything that might be challenging.
So, what kind of height should I be going for? What heights are used for comps? What height are you fairly accurate up to? Is it allowed to use a slingshot for masters round in comps?

I'm probably from not your main group of interest, but I as a fairly new rec climber throw accurately to about 50-70ft and can throw a max. of about 80ft.

I think a lot of work climbing and rec climbing are different, but throwballing is probably pretty much the same. Thanks!

I have been accurate to about 90' in the past but now not as accurate as I once was. Comp heights usually top out at 60-65 feet but the open comps like Charlotte and Geezers can be whatever the setup guys decided. They are the more interesting comps to be involved in. If you are going to be 40 by January, consider the Legends/Geezers comp to wet your feet with. It is a ton of fun.

I absolutely despise throwing by hand... I'd say anything over 40 feet takes a couple tries unless it's pretty wide open... With a bigshot on the other hand (esp wit the notch trigger) I'm accurate to 80-90 feet before I run out of tree to shoot at

I'll be 40 in april. I want to see if I can run with the younger guys, lol.

I repeatedly tried to hit a 90' target today. Couldn't get it. I eventually accepted a lower limb, went up the tree and advanced to my original target. I probably could have hit it in 1 shot with the slingshot. 60' by hand, I'm getting better. I think 90' by hand is going to be tough for me.

If I show on a jobsite in a relaxed mde with clear head. I will be hitting anything. 80 and below. Weather I am double bagging or not. Double bagging increases odds two fold. I despise a bigshot at work. Hand throwing is a huge skill. The place most flop is at comps. The pressure is insane. Having good weights like Harrison Rockets and some dynaglide also increase odds. Some are naturals. Most have to get every edge I am that guy. My technique is good. But I am a 10oz guy. Heavy bags are only for double bagging or isolating a single line throw.

90 by hand is really tough for most unless you have loads of room to stand back....high shots at comps are usually 60ish...but you might see some 80's occasionally. Throwline will make or break your comp.

Best way I have found to practice, other than work that is, is to use a bag with just enough knot-free string to throw it. Tie a small bit of flagging on it if you need. Go for accuracy, then height

A strong Kettlebell swing with excellent technique will improve your height and save your shoulders

Plan to do Charlotte in April then. If you care to come and watch, the NA Open MAsters is in Sa

No truer words ever said.

You really have to have the right length pendulum swing and it is a nice smooth trow releasing at the correct arc. Always aim above intended target....not at target....when releasing you must mentally have it going in....trust me it works.

If you cannot double bag, learn it immediately or you will have a lot of trouble at a comp. Unless you are a top shot. Very few of them exist. Good days and bad days are the morm.

When you say double bag... 2 bags on one end, one bag on each end, or 2 sperate bags on independent lines worked together to get your desired location?

How long of a pendulum do you like? I'm fairly short, so it is a limiting factor for pendulum length.

Double bagging is usually sending another weight and line up on the end of the first one you threw. The second weight and line get pulled up past the desired branch then dropped over, pulling both lines down. The first swings the second into the right spot which is great if your first throw was not perfect, but close.
