How does Coronavirus COVID-19 alter our workflow?

Our county just got sheltered in place, but I'm exempt. Hope my wood hauler shows up tomorrow morning...
We were put under the same order today too, but we are considered an essential business, so we are still open. Confusing to our customers and staff though, especially since our address is in an Open county, but our shop is actually located in a Closed county... The wonders of sitting right on the county line.

Well, in Ontario, all 'non-essential' is shutting down. So, I have to make a run to the comic book store to pick up a couple comics for the boys, and a board game. My 5 year old is CRAZY about that old Ghostbuster's movie from the 80's. It's awesome. He wants to be Ray Stantz when he grows up!

Having said that, all my work was cancelled and I've been sitting at home 3 days anyway- which sucks because I got to use my ZigZag on Thursday (for the first time) and I was thinking 'man, this is going to be a fun summer climbing on this thing!!!)'. I'd even ordered a couple of SIP T-shirts to look full-Euro like those fellas on instagram. My shirts are being quarantined at UPS (didn't realize shirts could get the Coronavirus).

This whole quarantine, I mean, except for going bankrupt, isn't bad. The bankrupt thing, I suppose, isn't ideal, but really, starting over isn't the end of the world either. My old man always said that, even if you lost it all, and all you had was a pickup and a shovel, you could feed your kids. I don't think anyone is taking my truck away, or my saws.

Still, lots of good times with the boys. We're going to try and land a Pike tomorrow, and we've been drawing and reading and hanging out. I even made dinner for the first time in a year, or so, yesterday and it turned out pretty good. If the rain stops, I'll likely paint my trailer and sea container (the office), and we'll head to the farm and split wood this week as well, and we're also running errands for some of the oldsters from the church which keeps us busy.

Yeah, so really, it's actually not that bad... I hope everyone stays healthy, and God Bless!!!!

Our order makes no mention of our industry directly by name. There is a vague "contractors" clause:

And this one, that gets me through:

It seems like California is doing a better job of addressing our industry.

On a side note, a friend of mine manages a bike shop. His business is booming of course, so he just hired three employees, putting him at seven total, so now he is shut down unless he fires a couple. I'm not judging anybody/anything, but the changing circumstances these days are very zuzwang-ish.

Well first day of shutdown for Michigan

so I went for a drive this morning and 2 of my local tree services are not working either

Helps me decide if we are going out or not

I’m happy for our safety
But sad for me and my TEAM Financially
(The whole world also)

Shut down for now is 3 weeks and we were going on vacation for 2 weeks for spring break before this all started and the frost law would have been in effect but canceled now because of the emergency
So we were going to be closed a good portion of it anyway

hopefully this 3 weeks will make a difference and the world can move on

What I'm seeing is that the large tree service employees may start incorporating small businesses or doing side work if their company shuts down. I think it's good because it creates isolation, but bad because they'll have to either incorporate or run their business under the table. It just seems hard to keep them at home - too much work ethic in them.

Well another thing is that probably 80% of our work is not essential

So going out is not helping the world get through this

On the other hand the general public is going to see our trucks on the roads and give us a bad image for not following the shutdown

Customers getting upset by scheduling non essential pruning or removals during shutdown

Not good

That’s funny my ole man would say all you need is a pickup and a saw

John, I just read that dogs have tested positive for the virus several times in California. And pets can have it on their hair or mouth if they were petted or handled very soon before any others have contact with them. I was on a solo hike this morning in the sun and another hiker down the trail had his dog running loose. Of course the creature ran up towards me to say hi. I can tell you the last thing I wanted to do was give it a friendly pet on the head!

We don't have enough test kits for people, let alone pets in the US. If pets in California are testing positive, this doesn't mean they are able to spread the virus to other humans, even though CDC says it's unlikely, but the CDC also admits there needs to be more testing. Bats may be able to transmit CV, when eaten though. Pet hair and saliva may be transmitters, possibly, even if the pet isn't infected.

That sure is something; I think the small businesses exception is a good idea though, at least as an idea. Here’s a section of the PA guide, which is based on the DHS guide, si in theory landscapers and tree services are legal nationwide because DHS says so? A8AE6BAB-A500-4E84-8193-386D05815AAE.webp

Maybe we can get the "landscaping" insurance rate since we are landscapers...
