How does Coronavirus COVID-19 alter our workflow?

There goes my income for now (and everybody else in Mass.), Massachusetts Gov. Baker just ordered a stay at home order for "non-essential" activities for now. Starts Tuesday March 24 so today I'll be maxing it out a bit.

Have any of you heard of curing this virus with heat? There is evidence out there that it cannot survive heat, and that is why it is in the airways because it is the coolest part of the body. So by using a sauna, breathing hot air from a fire, or even using a hair dryer you can actually kill the virus in short order.
This is false.

joe Rogan did a podcast with a infectious disease scientist and they addressed the exact issue of temperature and saunas. Neither kill the virus, when you breath that hot air in it isn’t even the temperature that you’re experiencing anymore; it’s significantly lower.

A couple points worth mentioning, based on an health care worker's accounts from Wuhan. If I find the direct link, I'll post it. It talks about the whole hot air breathing issue which apparently has some merit, in that it can help open blocked airway passages in damaged lungs, based on victim autopsies who died from blocked airways caused by the CV. A vaporizer produces steam which when inhaled also helps open blocked breathing airways. I don't think it's a cure, but it may help relieve symptoms. I'm also learning how by drinking lots of warm fluids, it helps keeps the throat moist and it helps flush viruses from the throat into the stomach where digestive acids can break down a virus, especially when someone has a sore throat. This is helpful, especially before the infection migrates from the throat to the lungs.

It’s a little tricky correlating sore throat to the “site” of viral infection. A sore throat is caused by your immune response, as are all viral infection symptoms. The main challenge with being sick with seasonal flu or Covid-19 is having a sound enough body to withstand your own immune response. Treating a sore throat is treating a symptom not attacking a virus directly.

The report's recommendations are as follows:
(As usual, use your own discretion and deductive reasoning when considering these tips)

1. Drink hot liquids every 20 minutes
2. Gargle daily with mouthwash
3. Because Covid19 gets in clothes and hair. Wash clothes and bathe when returning home (hang clothes in sunlight if washing isn't possible)
4. Wash/disinfect metal surfaces and areas that many hands touch
5. No smoking
6. Wash hands once every 20 minutes
7. Eat fruit and vegetables to maintain good zinc and vitamin C levels.
8. Animals and pets do not spread the Covid 19 virus
9. Maintain a strong immunity and practice social distancing

Here is another perspective about possible outcomes, using the low end of projected numbers for COVID-19 in the USA. Porter makes a case for the importance of the current testing, quarantine, etc. efforts to ensure that things don't go to hell in a hand basket.

People who can afford to donate a few thousand ventilators to the cause may freely tag this post as "fear mongering" and go on to explain how it's all a conspiracy and that ventilators can easily be replaced by Walmart vaporizers and a hair dryer. I'm down with that. I may have to self-quarantine, and I'll need a lot of internet stupidity to keep my typing skills from deteriorating.

Welcome to the glass house that is the good ole USA....While our leaders have been busy giving our nations treasure away to corporations and the rich, our infrastructure has failed to the point were we simply cannot take care of, or protect ourselves......If Porter's number are remotely in the realm of reality we are weeks away from being brought to our fucking knees, and whether we are able to get up will depend on what our so called leaders do moving forward... It is now time for a complete restructuring of the priorities of this nation...

You and I can self-quarantine... hell, we have two houses with all the utilities on, so the wife and I can stay 7 miles apart for easily 2 months, if one of us gets it. She's in the health care business, so she's at a very high risk. You have your goats, so... well, anyway... it's really the people in high population density areas that I worry about. Lots of those folks couldn't survive without a Starbucks or a Walmart for more than two days.

I really do hope that something breaks the trend. Interesting science coming out of Australia and elsewhere, so who knows. But, time is certainly running out quickly.

I heard that milled Redwood lumber is a key vector for the spread of the disease. Lucky for you, I have plenty of space for you to store it until it blows over. Just let me know when the trucks will get here, so I can unlock the gate for them.

Yeah buddy! Let your ballot do the talking.

. . . 8. Animals and pets do not spread the Covid 19 virus . . .
John, I just read that dogs have tested positive for the virus several times in California. And pets can have it on their hair or mouth if they were petted or handled very soon before any others have contact with them. I was on a solo hike this morning in the sun and another hiker down the trail had his dog running loose. Of course the creature ran up towards me to say hi. I can tell you the last thing I wanted to do was give it a friendly pet on the head!
