Hot Enough for Ya?

Accuweather is giving us a cool day today, high of 93. Wednesday and thursday to be 102 and 100 on friday. I hate the south!

Message from Southerners to Yankees:
We don't mind if you move down here. We don't mind if you join our churches. We don't mind if you marry our women. All we ask is that you just don't tell us how you used to do things back in Cleveland.

Very true. Lived in the south for 10 years…. Many did not appreciate me (a yankee) explaining why topping trees was bad. But I love and miss those Southern Highland Appalachian mountains!

Thomas Sowell, a "person of color" who is not a descendent from American slaves, has a lot to say about the Ebonics and cultural origins of northerners and southerners.

He indicates that Ebonics in not Black American English; it is a continuation of the language structure and usage of the people who populated the southern states, grew up in southern states, and then migrated to other areas.

I'm from Chicago and have long been exposed to Ebonics, which I'd mistakenly took to be Black American English.

My ex-wife is from Oklahoma and has perpetuated use of words such as 'brang' (instead of 'brought') and 'drug' (instead of 'dragged). He father used to 'fix' or be "fixin'" to do something.

Curious to hear other Buzzers' perspectives.

On a side note, who has noticed how much better educated TreeBuzzers and TreeHousers are, as a whole, compared to FBer on Tree Life, etc?

It has been getting into the 90s here in Northern Colorado. Even the high 90s. It's rough. I make myself drink water before I realize I am thirsty and if I haven't had to pee in a while I make sure to drink some then too.

I found and bought Pedialyte powder recently. I keep a few packets in my lunch box for times when I am worried I might be getting dehydrated. Normally the Gatorade I bring is enough.

OMG it got up to 89 today, we were all melting. All is well though as it's 57 and forcasted for the mid 60's tomorrow.

One afternoon of the year I worked in NOLA I was chatting with some guys. All three were from Louisiana. Someone made a funny comment about Northerners/Yankees...it wasn't aimed at me.

I asked them if there was a border or marker somewhere that was the dividing line between Northerners and Southerners these days...not in Civil War ideas.

The first guy says: Shreveport [Where he was from]

Next: Baton Rouge [Where he was from]

We all looked at #3 for his reply: Interstate 10! [He was from New Orleans]

We all had a great laugh!

I've been in short sleeves once this year.

I've got 3 Coolvests!

A cool vest helps you wear thin, long sleeves, covering you from the sun.

Buy them now. Some Hi viz are currently sold out.

Cool vest works for me when I'm riding my forklift in the warehouse in our hellish summers. Definitely does NOT work when I'm doing something active, like riding my dirt bike. Just nowhere near enough BTU of cooling available in the frozen gel to last very long, and then it becomes a hot vest. :-)
