Homemade spikes

Hey guys I was bored and just looking around on ebay and came up with this and thought I'd share it. Would you trust yourself climbing on something like this that some guy welded up in his garage? I'm not gonna lie they look half way decent as far as the shape but the straps and pads and the spikes welded on by who knows. It's amazing what people come up with or think up that they trust in trees.Homemade spikes

They look alright as far as homemade spikes go.

They spikes were slotted in then welded so suppose that makes them a bit safer than a straight to weld.

Welding if done by a skilled welder creates a extremely strong bond. Portawrap.

Spikes are just climbing aids not PPE like ropes and harnessess, but if your standing making a cut with your saw and the spike fails then you could be in trouble. Or if your up that tree aiming your gun at the deer below and the spike fails you could be in even bigger trouble.

So for that reason I'll stick to my bashlins.

Maybe so he could hang upside down like an arborbat with his ankles on each side of the branch, this probably helps when he is hunting.

Wait a minute there hi tree, maybe this guy is onto something. On a removal when your branch walking way out on a limb it might useful to have the spike at the top facing upwards. It means you could have the option of placing your leg over the branch and hooking in, in a pulling motion.

Then again, maybe not.

funny story about hunting spikes....we were removing a 30 or so inch cottonwo0d. next to the tree was a pair of hunting spikes(complete with antler emblem) and some rope. about 60 or so feet up i found a bow saw hanging on a stub. the homeowner said that the guy he rents to volunteered to remove the tree for him...but got scared!!
