Home security camera systems

There's plenty of good reasons to have a home security cam system. Parcel pirates are one of the most common. Some punks busted the drivers door window on my camper which I park on the street.

One main criteria is that I DO NOT want to have to pay a monthly subscription to be part of some companies security system. I want to maintain control of any info my cameras might gather

Off the top of my head these are some others:

Motion detector
Day time and night recording
Store recordings on my Internet system
HIgh resolution audio and video
Notify me via email when the camera is tripped
Wireless power/solar charge batteries
Multiple cameras

Am I expecting too much?

WHat might I be missing?

Oh, one last thing, it costs no more tha $100 LOL

It sounds to me like what you want as a very expensive system. It can be built, however if it is web connected (as necessary to be capable of sending you an email), it is also capable of someone accessing your data. It’s not possible to completely separate the two.

You can buy systems that record on to an internal hard drive, I have had installed a couple of those over the years and they work, but they are wired systems. None of the hard drive systems that I am aware of operate wirelessly, and wireless systems are inherently less secure, more prone to hacking.

I use the Ring system, and do pay a subscription to have it. However, a friend of mine who is a cyber security expert for the federal government has assured me that the system is about as secure as can reasonably be expected, and he uses the same system at his home. To me, that means some thing.

Hik camera system is a great system we run 11 cameras for our home , shop , and truck barn.
Does everything you want but with no power usually no internet no cameras
But I don’t have solar panels for it I’m sure it could be done

I replaced my previous motion sensitive porch light with a FEIT unit that encompasses a bluetooth security camera. Feed comes right my phone. It's got ongoing surveillance capabilities (Infra Red black and white images after sunset). My phone chirps whenever something activates it. You can also speak through it, listen through it, call 911 with it, and activate an onboard siren alarm. Cost about $130.00

I had/have a arlo system after I got ripped off. I'm certain it was targeted, and I'm also very certain I know who it was. A pack of Facebook tweakers... One thing I learned is the 'night vision' is kinda sucky, and there is a delay before the video starts. So I had to expand the unit to include motion lights, which would trip all cameras, otherwise a car coming up the driveway would be missed other than the rear bumper leaving the frame just as the recording started!

Things to be aware of with night vision, and infra red.. It makes license plates GLOW in the video, so entirely unreadable. The other big thing is these same goons were recorded climbing a tree, and disabling a camera, they were wearing cheap night vision goggles which made all the cameras themselves glow like the license plate reflections.

Nothing is perfect!

It made me more paranoid than 'secure', also I picked up A LOT of wildlife that would wake me at night when my phone alerted me (nearly every night or multiple times a night!).. Trade offs...

Tom. Check out Reolink cameras. They work on power, battery, solar. Just need a wifi signal. They are affordable and you control all the data they record. No subscription. I have one at the crane. I don't have wifi for it so it just records on a sd card and I have a solar panel for it. Their panel so everything is already figured out. Its an inside/outside camera so you really can just mount it or move it around. Check them out. I'm happy with it, Camera is 4 years old and still recording every day without issue. Mine is the Argus 2 by Reolink
