Just curious as to how many of you use your skills to put decorations (lights, etc.) in places that leave the average person wondering how in the heck you did that.

Anyone get hired to put lights in trees?

I've not done it before, but this may be the year I put a wad of lights in the top of the tall (90 ft?) pine tree in my front yard.

Maybe not exactly what you were looking for . . . . .
I have a brick chimney on the front of the house.
I installed a 1/4" cable around it at the very top, with a screw-link-oval.
A 1/8" cable goes up thru the screw link, & back to the ground. e.g. flag pole
A string of lights is pulled up 32 ft, back down to form a Xmas tree (20 ft wide), w/ a 4 ft high trunk.
The base uses 4 rebar stakes to set the bottom corners, and trunk.

I've used it for several years. All setup in 30 to 60 min. !

To tear down I flake the light strings into two 5 gal pails.

The company I worked for in Denver did millions of dollars worth of lighting. One thing that I learned from the designers is that in order to have an effective display lots and lots of lights are needed. Better to concentrate on one tree or feature than to scatter lights all over.

and...I didn't care for doing lighting at ALL..yuch!

Don't go up on the roof without being tied in just like in a tree.

Last year I also installed a 6500 Lumen flood light on the peak at the back of the house.
During lighting season, I leave it on all night. It lights up the trees (60-70 ft high) to silhouette the shape of the house,

That sounds interesting. One of my neighbors points one of those green dot laser projectors at a giant Norway Spruce behind his house. It’s a real interesting effect, as much as those projectors usually look tacky to me, shining on the tree really works. We joke that the tree is infested with Spotted Laser Flies.

Xmas & house lights noted above.
It's getting light this morning, so you can just barely see the flood lite trees in the back yard.
Happy Holidays to All !
