hitch cord

I used to climb on ice until my boss ordered us some hrc to try. I found the ice and my lava weren't the best match but the ice ran great on my blue streak. The hrc ran great on both i liked it. But I've been looking at ocean and some of the new ones does anybody have any opinions or suggestions? It needs to agree with bluestreak and lava.

Thanks

Kevin

Norm, I think it really depends on the hitch and weight of the climber also. I use Ice on Tachyon and found it to be the best combo for me, out of the cords I have used (HRC, beeline and Tenex).

All I have to say on this is to each his own. Everybody's friction devices and hitches and ropes and weight vary so what works for some may not work for others so play with different cords and knots and diameters and find what works best with your set up for you.

I've used 8mm Oceans and HRC on my Tachyon and didn't fall in love with either. The last two times I climbed, I used Bailout and it was great.

Obviously, there are lots of variables.

I think you can only get bailout in 7,5 mm!
On a 13 mm rope it is excellent, but I don't like it on my 11mm robes. Think 10mm soft heat is great on 11mm tachion (lava) or 11mm velocity. :-)

Ive been meaning to give HRC a try, but ive been waiting for them to fix the hemorrhaging that people have been experiencing. Seems like most hitch cords have that problem from time to time.. Ive been using 10mm Beeline and love the feel it has on Arbormaster 1/2".... Again, to each his own. Buy them all by the foot and try them out on your ropes to see what works best on each rope.

If you like HRC, you'll like Ocean, probably a little better, double braid splice, tighter jacket. I'm a big fan of HRC but I ride Ocean all the time now except on rope covered with pitch, I break out the Icetail for that until the pitch wears off.

thanks guys thats a big help and i should've told you geared up I'm about 200 lbs and if the tails long enough i use a kinute (sp?) or i have a short hrc I use a distel

Yes it does BURN UP! I was bombing around a Big Leaf Maple one time and found when I got out of it that I had melted it to the CORE. Be careful, melts at like 600 deg I think.

Using a Knut and Tachyon. Ocean is a good medium between Beeline and HRC. Give it a couple runs and it fuzzes out a little. HRC is ruined on pine sap. Aside from hemorrhaging near splice ends. I think the Grizzly splice makes it worst. Beeline can be washed after a goopy sap fest. .ICE is great for lanyards. Tenex Is ok but binds up after medium movement. Better for lanyards and rigging prussic. Beeline is hard to beat as an all around solid cord.Ocean coming in very close second.
