Hitch Climbers' Guide

Re: Hitch Climbers\' Guide

There are so many uses for the Hitch Climber that I may have to purchase a second one soon.

Any word on when the Ocean Polyester cord will be available in the US?

It is, you just have to spend 6 bucks per foot for it. Sherrill has it in stock. Hopefully new England will be selling it soon and hopefully the price will be MUCH CHEAPER! I have it and love it

Can it be spliced?

Re: Hitch Climbers\' Guide

Can it be spliced.....

Yes.....

However, as hard as we have tried, we haven't gotten an official statement from the manufacture as to the "official" splice on this one.

So what we did was make up two samples, one with a class I double braid splice (like what you would do on regular 24 strand rope) and another with a class II splice (like what ultra tech would take).

Then we put them on the break test bench and the results showed pretty clearly that the class I was the way to go.

So anyway, with that said, at our shop, until we get an official splice from the company that makes this, we don't splice these for sale. However, one of the guys at the splicing symposium made a beautiful eye and eye splice for a prusik using the class I splice for an overall length of, I think, 32 inches or something. It really turned out well and I would have no reservation at all on climbing with that.

Personally, I just throw a fishermans knot in there and make a prusik cord out of this and it seems to work just fine..

So I know that is kind of a wordy answer, but I hope that answers the question.

Yeah, I was having trouble with it, cause I'm not a strong reader.

I think the next order Heartwood puts in, I will be getting some of that O.P. (and let the company pick up the shipping!)
