High Topping - Cathedral Grove

Been up at Cathedral Grove, couple of miles up island, helping out another company. Mainly hazard tree work....topping, falling blasting etc. I was just there for the climbing.

Some pics from a dead fir. Had to resize to low res for the forum, so not so clear. Tree was probably 220ft. Left it as a big wildlife pole. Its been a cold snap up there, but no wind thankfully.

Awesome work Reg, I was out there this past summer as you know, the pics don't even come close to justify how big those trees are for those of you that haven't been out to Vancouver island ! were you climbing with the 395/3120 closer to the bottom? That areas so majestic with all those giants!

Thanks.

The guy with the camera was just there to help, tie saws on, free my rope, whatever. I told him beforehand to make sure the camera was resting on something to avoid getting a shake. Only a little camera I've had for years. He did a good job.

Reg, when you say "blasting"... Is there room for that in urban work as well? I've been thinking about using it for dead pine tops, small wood, to get them to a manageable size to climb and chunk out. Do you have any resources to share on the topic?

I don't think it'd be very practical, nor lawful in and around houses. People blast rocks here all the time, but that's drilled deep underground first. Arial stuff is different....you need quite the exclusion zone. Some vid here from 2 years back, same site.

Very nice sir, indeed!
Spent some time there on our way to Tofino. You know surfing en whale watchin shit...Saw a tractor trailer navigate a corner with a tree (some kinda cedar with big ass butt flair) three pieces filled the whole fucking trailer! Serious troubles trying to get a good pic in cathedral... shits too big!!!

Yo Reg!? How is the hair hanging? Give us a pic will ya? I'd oblige, but I'm in this declined stage these days, not as impressive as I remember your flowy locks! You might be wondering...maybe not, no worries mate!

Ha, are serious?

Here, taken just a second ago. Those blotches are just toothpaste on the mirror. Terrible wife she is. She's gonna have to go !
