That big old bolt and nut could be made out of aluminum and have knurled edges, making it lightweight and hand adjustable.

Adding a friction assist lever or pivoting slic pin may be a nice add-on, in place of the screw.

4 different slic-pin adjustment, beyond the straight line option, I would think would adjust enough.

IDK, maybe more of a consideration for DdRT, where you are fighting changing friction.
