Helmets

Funny this came up . I was just looking for a new helmet myself. I climb with a wide brim hard hat at work and like it , but dont know the name . My rec helmet is a Kong, untill the dog got ahold of it.Now I'm thinking of using a petzel.The only prob. is that I cant find a Rec. helmet with a short brim to help with the rain and sun.Mark, hope something comes up here, because I would like to know as well.

I think the Petzls are hard to beat.I work in a Vented Ecrin Roc. I also like Black Diamond'S Halfdome. I Compete in it,(looks a little snazzier)

I can't comment on which helmets are top of the line. I will state I use a Pacific Bushranger.

Joe, I'm not familiar with this name? Could you elaborate a little? What is the make-up? Style? Suspension system?
Thanks

Hi, Mark;

I found the name of this helmet at the web site Tom posted. In style, it looks exactly like the helmet that you're wearing in your most recent Stihl photograph advertisement. You know, the photo of you I find in any of the trade magazines I pick up to read

Am I right about the style you're wearing?

Hey I really like that helmet you pictured Tom. That's exactly what I need now with it being allergy season. Anyone know of any good ways to beat the pollen? As far as helmets I have to admit I hate wearing them. I have been wearing the one by stihl and found that the suspension system is alway breaking on me and its too heavy, you can't see anything, and the earmuffs are always getting caught on something. I recently bought a rock climbing helmet by Kong and I realy like it. I don't even know I have it on. It's like a weedless lure.

I must say I have had the same problem myself in summer time with ear plugs. I found that the sweat acumulating in my ears caused infections. I only wear ear protection for short periods. To be honest I can't stand to listen to a chainsaw anymore. If I am mostly pruning I wont even burn a tank of gas a week. I even took down a good size sycamore one day with just a hand saw until I got down to some big trunk wood.

Speaking of the ad mark is in, good job getting treebuzz.com in there, I'm suprised they let you get away with that.

I found something out while talking to a guy at a rock climbing outlet. He said that the Petzel (Ao6) is the helmet you want for tree climbing.The suspention and chin strap is desighned for a whiplash.

Could not find the Ao6 on their web page.

Can't see how that can be though, you would have to have cables built into shoulder pads.

All helmets with 3 point suspention are built for 3 axis impact.
