helicopter/crane-same dif

Where there's a will (and enough money) there's a way.

Nice job and thanks for posting the pics Chopper.

Hey Jerry, didn't you make a dvd about helicopter logging a little while ago from a demo that you saw?

had the heli for 1 hour at $1800/h.100 tonne crane was other option but that would of been at least 1/2 day also meant closing roads and having power lines covered

heli was good for 600kg at first then gradually increased to about 800kg max after burning off fuel.they have done a lot of tree jobs

Lets see 200 kg of fuel, figure roughly 73 gallons of Jet A at about 6 bucks a gallon, at leat a direct operating cost of almost 450 bucks an hour, not counting wear and tear and oh yeah profit. 1800 an hour sounds about right!
I stopped by a new Costco the other day to see about lifting their HVAC, it'll all be done with choppers I was told. Later I flew over in my homebuilt and noticed many of the picks were in over 150' from where a crane could setup so I guess the chopper would be competitive with a 300 ton crane.
I've watched heli logging closeup, poetry in motion, great teamwork by the flight crew and ground crew and they can really move some wood quick.

How about pics?

Heres a question. What would have to be done to fly the stuff maybe a mile away. Is that possible in a residential area or is it posing a risk. I ask because if the tree was in a similar spot with no area to set down in front ( maybe a busier road for example) would it be ok to take it to a parking lot or something?

RANS S7-7 Courier, first flown last summer, it now has 117 hrs. I had an earlier model (S-7, 1994, also now known as the short tail model,) that I put over 1300 hours on. Think Super Cub, but half the fuel burn, and shorter take offs and landings. Its handy for checking out jobs, and cheaper then driving, as I keep it at my home strip.

Courierguy,
my hobbies include rugby, fishing and reading books, you're building planes and flying them.i am so not envious!!!

Was that an insurance claim job? the house with peeling paint and ivy pushing out the soffits would not appear to justify the effort and expense....

just curious.

helicopter lifts? do the guys in the hunting club know where their dues are going? I like think im hearin real talk on this forum. the house would bring more {if its insured} than the removal.

insurance job.the home owner was a bit miffed the tree didnt disect his house and write it off when it first fell cause the house is a bit of a shack

Most of the places I've worked were reasonably close to dump sites.

I thought you were alright up to that comment.

Later richard

c'mon mate,i'm still not sure if you're being fairdinkum but i'll explain a couple of things to you anyway-
it may not look like it but that job was in suburbia, far away from tips.
regulations deemed we were only allowed to fly with loads over the property we were working on.
time/fuel is major concern when using heli so you use them both efficiently.

i still reckon your alright!
