Hedge pruning on rope

moss

Been here much more than a while
Had 50' or so of arborvitae "hedge" to prune. It was tight along a swimming pool so some challenges getting to all of it. Did everything I could from the ground then did the rest on rope. It kind of sucked but it worked, best thing is the client was very happy with the results.

This is the same job where a 13 year-old kid the next street over pointed a 9mm at me while I was up in an ailanthus. I told him to cut the crap and he put the clip back in and went in the house. I brought it up with the neighbors and they dealt with it. Nothing is surprising in tree work.

I've always wanted to do that! I have also invisioned two trees growing on either end of the hedge so I could set up a pulley run along the top of the hedge, but there is never the right combo. I guess it always sounds better than it actually works out!

I had to pull myself into the hedges so it wasn't perfect, if I was right over them? Cake.

done similar utilising the cherry picker as the pitch point and stihl hedge trimmers.
you got to work with what you have on hand and that site did have whole lot of suck going on.
hope they paid very promptly . :envidioso

Here's the Ailanthus from the video after I took it down

Won't that Ailanthus re-sprout? I've never actually cut one, but in my experience most of the invasives are heavy coppice producers.
You got some job security going on there Moss? Kidding. Nice chair carving.
I like the idea with the pool for water retention, just not sure I'd want my whole back yard taken up by it. To each his own though.

Yeah, regular customer, if it sprouts easy enough to prune. Their yard is plenty big so the pond is a plus for them.

I had a client once that had an 80/foot long 24/foot high and wide hemlock hedge. I called it the hedge from hell. The trees had been topped sometime long before I started doing her work. I would climb up and stand on the topping cut and poke through the foliage. Used a pole pruned and pole saw on the top, hand pruners on the sides from a 16/foot step ladder. Usually took about 2 days to do it. A real PITA.

"...kid the next street over pointed a 9mm at me while I was up in an ailanthus..."

Absolutely no good can come from an ailanthus tree. No. Stinking. Good.

Always enjoy your videos, AJ.

Thanks. Yeah the gun thing was a random incident, the kid didn't think I could see him, clip was not in it, he put the clip in as he went back in a house. I end up working on a lot of Ailanthus, it's the default urban tree. Interesting thing is when a female Ailanthus is loaded up with seed, the limb weight difference is significant, they are super prolific seed producers.
