Heat Waves

How have you Buzzers in the West been holding up during the heat? I believe I saw where another heat wave is supposed to hit, but more in the Rockies.

Here in the Deep South, it hasn't been particularly hot, but still have the heat index at 100+ regularly. I'm usually kind of a taskmaster on myself and usually only take a quick break now and then to guzzle a pint or quart of something. Doing a solo removal this week, I had to stop about 3 times long enough to fully cool down. But that was a 10 hr day with no lunch break. I do have to throttle back a little to maintain a sustainable work rate when it's so hot and humid.

Regularly take water breaks every hour and start hydrating first thing when wake up in the morning, start actually working early in the morning, wear light colored clothing, and sometimes you just need to call it early and come back to finish another day.

I wound up working through 2 of the 3 hottest days of the heatwave here in the NW. I didn't really want to, but for scheduling/logistical reasons I just had to get those particular jobs done at that time. It made me grateful for how light/cool the Clogger Zeros are while still being actual chainsaw pants. Drank a lot of water and noticed how much salt I was sweating out into my shits, so extra sports drink, nuts and other nutrients.

Nothing like chipping deadwood in 95 degrees.... glad temps went back to normal after a few days.

Oh my lawd, I think it's on farh!

For me, lots of Gatoraide. I think it is basically an exact replacement for lost sweat, only with some flavouring added. And I found this neck-tie thing at REI that is filled with some sort of crystal stuff. You soak it in water til it swells up (feels soft, squishy, so is easy on the neck) and it evaporates the water as it hangs there. Keeps the neck and head cooler, and lasts a lot longer than just tying a wet handkerchief around the neck.

This week has been pretty brutal in Alabama. I've been working a landscaping project for my neighbor moving 15 yds of topsoil by wheelbarrow for the past few days with the heat index hitting 105 to 109 every day.
