Padding knees is important.
Years ago the bursa in my left knee was inflamed and would fill with fluids. My knee looked like a kitten ball. It ached but didn;t hurt FOr about three months I worked with an orthopedic surgeon to try and get my knee calmed down. Finally I decided to have the bursa removed. In hindsight I wish I would of had patience and continued therapeutic solutions.
The surgery was done in the fall. The following winter I went through several knee pads to find one that did two things:
First..pad my knee while climbing. It is amazing how often I'd do a knee brace.
Second, warm knees means warm feet.
I'm in Minneapolis.Yeah,cold. I read an article about how Will Steger designed the clothing his team used for their trip to the North Pole in 86. They followed principles that the Inuit had followed for time unknown.
The blood vessels wer buried deep in the thigh muscles. mmmm..warrm.
Then the blood went trough the knees. Brrrrr...no insulation=heat loss.
The Inuit solution is to add insulation tothe knees. Kneed pads, thigh hich socks anddouble kneed warmers=warm feet.
