Health Insurance Y/N

Where I do depart a little from your statement "..the basic needs of humanity (water, food, shelter, medicine) should be made as high quality and affordable as possible...". Obviously you imply a balance of quality and cost. But one person will interpret that (especially in health care) "high quality" being everything and anything to give a dying person 3 more weeks of life...even at a cost of millions of dollars.
I get your point, it is somewhat moot as we don’t even have the lowest bar in that scenario. Those in power have danced around that for decades and would prefer to debate than just do the bare minimum. How many more breast cancer diagnoses would be caught early in this country if we did as most developed countries? Planned Parenthood is an awesome and accessible provider for that thankfully.

So with insurance you reached your total out of pocket cost for the year that you are paying off, or is the $10k ontop of that for things not covered (out of network or past allowable? Brutal!
Yes that was total out of pocket for the year (this was mid-December so the year total restarted from $0 two weeks later) and the out of network ambulance ride with the first dose of pain medication (about $1100)

There's plenty of support for low/mid-low income breast cancer screening. Insurance is required to cover it if the patient has insurance. Medicaid covers it for those on that. So mammograms are really available to anybody at almost any screening facility.

Since the program we use doesn't cover preventative visits, that's straight outta pocket for us. I don't recall the cost, but it's not bad. Every year they offer my wife to fill out paperwork for a grant to cover it... but I think the income threshold is 50-60k so we just pay.

It's just matter of people getting themselves in...there is plenty of accessibility. Politicians implying otherwise are playing the games politicians play to create crisis.

Form a LLC, transfer your tools to that. Then rent the tools to yourself…
So, it seems that the IRS is savvy to that idea, and they can still go after the assets if they are sold/given to that LLC less than two years prior to declaring bankruptcy. This needs to be done well before the point where you might need it so as to properly protect the assets, so I am gonna look into it now, while I am not totally destitute. I had looked into it once and forgot that there is a timetable to beat.

Yeah...its gonna be a lot harder to bankrupt-proof assets from than IRS than from a medical bill collector. I would suspect the assets to the LLC trick will work there IF they were in the LLC before the bill was sent to you (or maybe even before services were provided...or maybe before you needed the services???). After the bill was sent: I'd guess a half-pence attorney could easily find those and claim they were part of the assets you owned when the bill was sent so they should stand good for that debt. A lot of assumption by an arborist here, obviously seek legal advice, not hanging anything on what I said!

What I have been able to find basically confirms your suspicions. Bankruptcy extends far beyond any single bill or debtor, and it will always involve the courts/government. You absolutely must protect your assets well BEFORE you need them protected, or legally, you're just "hiding" them.

You got it, or not? Just learned you need to have health insurance to open and contribute to an HSA. No health insurance because it’s not affordable and want to save money instead for out of pocket, it counts against you if applying for any aid. Own a house to have secure housing, they assume you can/will sell it to pay for your med bills.

$6k/yr in premium payments and need to spend $4.5k to reach deductible to get 30% coinsurance for anything significant assuming in network, that’s with gov assistance! Most copays that cover pcp visits or physical therapy etc don’t count toward deductible. Made an appointment in Sept to see primary care provider to get a referral for a specialist, visit for PCP is end of March.

What is the fiscally smart thing for a working class person to do in this fucked system??
Hey Serf,

Yes health Insurance.

As screwed up as things are, IT IS still the fiscally smart thing to do maintaining health insurance, cuz shitt happens, and life is not fair.

IF you can, get it.
