Having fun trying friction hitches

I am currently running the 8mm shark. Or the technora w/ vectran core. With triple fisherman’s for the termination and a 1.5" tail. After the original set I have not had any creeping out of the Shark. I purchased the pure dyneema and the poly/dyneema paraloc's as well. As you stated the other paraloc's DO NOT hold any kind of a knot. A bit of bouncing and it all comes unraveled. I spent a lot of time at the park on the ground with these cords before ever venturing above the 4ft mark. I feel very safe on the Shark. It was the only one of these cords that got off the ground. The other versions Marlin, Stingray, and, Piranah MUST BE AVOIDED. I should have brought up the knot issue earlier. Some cords just don't like knots. The trouble is the cords that hold termination knots best are also the ones that grab the rope the hardest and won't let go. If I could get a Shark eye to eye stiched my quest would be over....probably not...

That Icetail looks like the Vectran prussic I got from a popular climber a few years back. Said samson was just coming out with it, and to test it out and see how it did.

I have ben climbing on the same one for almost 8 months total.

I switch off and on between a few hitches.

For me the Ocean Systems Polyester just didn't do it on the Velocity in either diameter on any VT combi, I went back to Hercules Liros 8mm which absolutely flies...for a week and then you have to bin it!!!
Just trying Samson Bail-out and it seems awesome, just like the Liros but heat resistant.

Can you tell me where I can find a pic of the Michoacan as it sound interesting

and another

the first one is tied and the pulley put on as the hitch is tied. the second one is tied and then the whole thing is turned 180 degrees and then the pulley added. (does this make sense?) i tend use it the second way...

peace,

mk

The smoothest rope/friction hitch combo that I’ve found so far, is 11mm Blaze and 10mm Bee-Line. I tie a modified VT, five turns up, and two crosses under. The hitch grabs well, and breaks easy. Very smooth!

Imagine a double braid where the cover and core are braided into each other so that there can be NO milking and the rope keeps it's round shape.

Sounds nice Nick. But checking it out, the poor knot holding and factory only splice make it too specialised and impracticable for my uses. No sheath slippage on an SRT ascent line is also a concern, should anyone consider its use there.

Thanks for the link.

Both the beelines are spliceable.

Laz- are you saying you WANT sheath slippage in an SRT ascent line? The shark might be just PERFECT for SRT ascent. I do agree with you on one thing. The splice is ridiculous and has no place in or near a tree.
