Has anyone used pfanner protos helmet ?

It's sweet. Very comfortable, lightweight.
Seems pricy, but do some math,
130 for a kayak super, 28 for peltors, 50 for a visor, that's 210 right there.
Factor in some more for a full face covering, hideaway ear muffs (really sweet), and side impact protection, and it's worth another 70 or so.
Not to mention everything on the helmet is replaceable.

Nice lid. I've been wondering about a fireman brimmed helmet or one of their other fireman designs. Sunburn on the face and back of the neck is an all day all exposure problem. Also the twigs and sawdust going down your back. I bought a Paddy Daddy wicker hat at the thrift store I may try and mount on my lid for the hot days. Just a thought, I suppose a hard brim could cause neck injury but that sun gets hot after all the shade in the yard has been removed in the morning.

Uh ha. Maybe I can skip the Sampan and jamming rags in the lid. I didn't see that on the Treestuff site. It was a quick look but I did see the Halo Solar Skull Cap $22. Looks good.

I went back and found the neck gaurd. That's for cut protection and I wasn't going to cut my neck anyway.

Love my Protos. Wearing mine since Nov and its hard to imagine wearing anything else now. It took a little bit of adjustment as it fits slightly differently (more snug, which is nice) The ability to tighten to muffs to your desired pressure is amazing. Also you cant beat the muffs tucking away inside the helmet.

Again amazing helmet. Also as far as i know its the only one with a side impact rating! Added safety.

I was just about ready to pull the trigger on getting one of these and then I saw your post Kevin. What are some of the things you don't like and why?

<3 mine. My head is giant and the protos fits like a glove. Summer heat will be interesting. It's vented and has a honeycomb type material in the top that should draft well. Time will tell.

I was really just complaining and still in disbelief I spent that much on a hard hat. My biggest complaint is the chin strap sucks, I find myself struggling to get it on and off and the straps are too thin. The tightening mechanism is complicated and not as user friendly as the petzl. Its kind of hard to adjust but I think I figured it out. Not as straight foward as the petzl. I don't like the crazy colors. I feel silly when I wear it. But I love the ear muffs. And so, if you care about your hearing, get it. I could never stand helmet muffs to climb with or do anything because they always snag on everything. I always used to use ear plugs which are easily lost and always dirty.
The muffs are where its at with this helmet. A huge step forward in head AND hearing protection. I took the visor off because but it seemed nice if your were logging or doing a lot of stump grinding. for climbing it gets in the way. I am happy with my purchase. I think my ears are thanking me lots.

I have a Protos helmet that I am currently sending around to people to try out for themselves. Currently the list sits at 3 people.

If you and to try it on for yourself and get on the list you need to
1. Know me
2. Me know you
3. Know someone I know who I like and think would punch you if you didn't give me my helmet back.

Pm me if you're unsure of where you might fit in on the list. Currently I'm giving folks 2 weeks to test it then they send it to the next person on the list. You pay shipping.
