Hand saws

There are times I would prefer to use a hand saw for branch removal while in the canopy of a tree. I haven't really found one I like all that well though. I cut a lot of mesquite, live oak, and Texas ebony.

In looking at what's available, it appears the Corona or Fanno saws with the deep gullets might be the way to go. I'm sure the Silky saws are good but look like the teeth would clog pretty quick. What do those of you having experience with these saws think of them?

I didn't find anything on this subject through a search.

Yup, Silky rocks and will blow Fanno and Corona out of the water. Those are some hard woods you're cutting there. The Silkys cost more but there's a very good reason for that. Much sharper, and they keep their edge much longer too.

You will be glad you spent a few extra bucks on a Silky. I've used a Zubat and a Sugoi, Sugoi all the time now.

Always think about where your other hand is! I've been there too many times!

I respect my unsheathed Zubat the same way as I respect my razor sharp Bowie Knife.

I respect my Silk's. I have only had 3 handsaw injuries in 5.5 years (knock on wood) and each one has a good story behind it.

Very happy with the Barnel hand and pole saws which come from the US--doesn't anybody else use them? They seem to be never mentioned yet they come from where most of you seem to live! And they are cheaper than the Silkys too!

Thanks for all the responses. Not being familiar with the Barnel saws, I did a search and, like Pete, have to wonder about their apparent lack of use.

The Barnel saws appear to be of similar construction to the Silkys, also have "impulse-hardened" teeth, and cost as much as 50% less. Has anyone had a bad experience with a Barnel saw?

I have never heard of the barnel saws. Is there anyone out there that has compared such saws to the silky as far as cutting speed and smoothness? I would like to check this out as I am still fooling around with the old fanno.

Long story short lost a zubat picked up a corona and now am looking to buy another zubat or sugoi. spend the coin and go with the silky
