What’s everyone’s preference for ornamental pruning? I have the Silky arborist but it’s a little too wide in a lot of scenarios. I’m liking how the silky Tsurugi looks

Silky Ginga is a straight blade with teeth to the saw tip. The blade is flexible and good for cuts in tight spaces. Not sure about current availability. Last replacement blade I bought was from the Sherill catalog about 15 years ago

I bought the short straight blade tsurugi and it is completely unusable. Avoid that one. I think the teeth are too aggressive for how short the blade is. It’s dangerous and makes bad cuts that take a lot of effort. Their curved tsurugi, on the other hand, I’d keep buying for the rest of my days.

I used the silky pocket boy for a few years on ornamentals. It was serviceable for me. A razor knife was my secondary tool - I’d undercut as far as possible, then strip upward or diagonally cut to meet the undercut. Then use the razor knife to trim off the remainder of the cut

I use the Tsurugi with medium teeth 330mm straight blade. It is great.

My helper likes the Gomtaro with medium teeth and fine tooth tip. It is a wider blade so I like the Tsurugi better to fit in tight spots.

Any short, straight, non-folding medium-toothed Silky will be great. The smaller the distance between the spine and teeth, the better. I do not think Silky has a fine tooth option, but that would be better than medium-toothed. The folding saws are not great - they do not lock shut and the teeth are not flared slightly outward to expand the kerf slightly wider than the spine of blade.

they do make a fine tooth blade for some of their saws. It's too fine, but cuts PVC like butter
