Habits for Longevity in Arboriculture & Life

LOL! Yeah sure, if you say so. You know that advice has been going around for a long time now. Think it's working?
Lots of folk need supplements. Each of our physiologies are different. Damn I take none, not for me but know many that do with good results. @Mick Dempsey no need to make fun of American Culture either, majority here are american and the folks who brought us this lovely site are american. Taking stabs at others " beliefs "is sad in my opinion. And I don't give two fuck most days. Cannot put all of Americans in one bracket, WTF.

Unfortunately we progress quickly towards all of social media in how we talk each other. I could care less about the nationality part of it. In general everyone should be treated with equal respect until they give a reason not to be. Perhaps we can consider the fact, just because we have an opinion, doesn't mean were obligated to share it when it contributes absolutely nothing to the conversation.

I edited my post above after you both commented. I don't want to turn this thread into something other than the intended purpose but I will say with the utmost passion........over the probably 20+ years I've been on here (under different accounts because somebody is gonna check) I've never been spoken to or treated with the utmost fucking disrespect as I was in the conspiracy theory thread. I truly learned some things about some people. When people show you who they are, always listen. I was taken back by the entire thing and just had to walk away. No respect for others opinions or beliefs. No respect for other humans. Some conversations shouldn't happen when you cant look the other person in the eye. Its sad.

This is a derail. But it does not take much to be civil on social media. I always ask myself, is this something I need to say and will it help this thread any. Lots of times I write something in a bad mood or a frustrated moment and quickly squash the damn thing as it really does not reflect who I am to mere semi strangers. My friends might be able to handle my bullshit as they know who I AM. But that has no place on my social media even to those I know.

Bill Maher had an excellent bit about exactly that. So true

On another note. This author and his current book are pretty interesting to me. He is into permaculture and forest gardening. His use of plants and trees in his cooking and health is really interesting. Some of his stuff looks like it probably tastes fantastic. I had read about the use of pine needles before but not in the context he does. Anyway, this is a positive and health based author who's current book spreads goodness between us humans and between us and nature. Check it out if you like. I'm not a gardener so I find it really interesting. https://gavinmounsey.substack.com/p...tle&isFreemail=true&r=118pld&utm_medium=email

Show me where I’m making fun of American culture.
Pointing out a trend amongst a population is not généralisation or mockery, Its demograpics, same as if I said Americans love a bit of fentanyl the French adore a bit of a strike or the Scottish eat too much unhealthy food.

‘Taking stabs at others beliefs’ well yeah sure, are their beliefs so fragile they cannot even withstand the mildest (and it was mild) contradiction or discounting as pointless?

Couple of points here-

moderation in moderation.

There are in fact supplements available which are helping people to live longer, and be happier and more productive longer.

And speaking from experience I can assure you that a pissing match on an interweb forum is not gonna add one fucking second of longevity to anyones climbing career?

Growing, raising, and wild harvesting your own food is healthier for you, your community, and the planet. It’s also immensely satisfying work.

At the risk of pressing a sore spot, what's Alpha Gal?
Mammalian meat allergy due to a tick borne illness. Having been to culinary training and food being one of the few things I take great pleasure from and am passionate about, kind of a kick in the parts. Luckily I’m not as severe as some who can’t even walk past meat cooking without an allergic reaction. Currently it has to lay eggs for me to be able to eat it or ingredients made from it. Been a bit of a tough go the last 12 months. Year ago yesterday I was in the ER. Still verticle so a plus

Something simple..
I recently got a hydration backpack and wore it on a climb. I was amazed how many times I thought, "I'm thirsty" and drank a few sips. I know I don't make up all that missed water on my usual climbing routine: chugging water each time I hit the ground.
I'm pretty happy with carrying a bit of water that way. I was bringing up a water bottle and attaching to a sling in the middle of the work; but I kept dropping it.. keeping on the hip , meh.
Little habits and routines make the difference. Adding salt to the water can be good when sweating is expected.

Another of my routines is that I make trail mix. I get cases of all my ingredients (save about 30-40%). My mix leans heavy on the dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, dates) so it's easy to digest and packed with available energy. Also nuts like Walnut have special properties, pepitas carry loads of minerals, I add coarse sea salt .. etc.
I keep a stash of that with me always and I am never again buying stupid gas station food or crappy burgers. I've been making trail mixes for over 20 years and now have a great blend for all-day tree work. If I leave with nothing else it will sustain me and I enjoy it well.
