Grizzly splice ?

Hey guys, and gals of course, I am just ordering a bit of gear, split tail, longer bee line(eye to eye hitch line), I am going through Sherril this time(prices seem a bit better then Wesspur for rope goodies), and I noticed they offer a different splice on their rope gear, the Grizzly splice, which to me looks like they have basically sewn the rope ends together and then shrink wrapped them.
Any of you have experience with this splice and is it 'job rated'. I mean, I assume if Sherril is selling it it is meant for work, but, would like to be sure before laying out he greenbacks.
Also looks bloody easy to do, any of you try your own 'Grizzly' splices ?
Thanks and stay safe gang,
-Grais.

I've never had any problem with the grizzly spliced bee line.As far as sewing them yourself,I don't think that's a good idea.Sherrill puts out the money to develop this stuff and there able to load test it.I agree it does look like it's just sown together but maybe there's more to it that you can't see.

The hand splice is $35 and the Grizzly is $20.

I wonder how long it takes to make a Grizzly? Under 5 min. with the shrink added into the time? I'm sure the machine cost a bundle and that is where the price is coming into play. (Just speculation)

But, I don't see why someone couldn't do his/her own "Grizzly splice." It doesn't look like rocket surgery.

I personally would try it out, but I am not responsible for anyone who does try it out either.

WARNING:

Do not attempt to use a stitch splice done by hand for life support!!!

I can't stress this enough.

Those really have to be done by machine. Only the machine keeps an even tension on the thread at every stitch in order to ensure a consistent distribution of the load at the eye.

We do supply the stitch splices, but for the money, I will always opt for the bury splice (hand spliced) style. They look better and are really the first class way to go.

So please don't try to stitch your own splice. Believe me, in our shop, we have seen it all, guys have brought in some stuff that is pretty scary and I can tell you we have seen some hand stitched stuff and those fellows are lucky to be alive.
