Grizzly Splice Covering

I have some beeline 10mm and its grizzly spliced for use as an eye to eye cord. It got crossed up somewhere and the heat shrink covering got ripped with zero damage to the stitching. Is it ok to remove the heat shrink stuff. I assume its not structural in this setup? But wanted to check.

Remove the shrink tube and install new shrink tube if possible. Otherwise, just protect the sewing with vinyl tape or electrical tape. Keep in mind that clear tubing allows you to visually inspect the sewing on a regular basis. If you use tape, unwrap the tape and inspect the sewing occasionally as part of your regular gear checks.

Grizzly splice! The GS is really becoming popular! It is said its easy to splice, so it's less expensive and it holds stronger! What do you all think about the GS?

Thanks guys. My only beef with the grizzly splice is that it is bulkier then a regular splice. In the case of using it as hitch cord it can get tangled up with other hardware, and i am using it with a hitch climber pulley.

Yeah, but you actually have less of the chord affected by the splice so you can get away with a more appropriate length. What do people have against knots for their hitch chord?? I've never had an issue with knots?

Chep, in my experience the grizzly splice actually works well with the HC pulley, as the rope sits flat on either side, nice and clean. Only problem is 'sit-back,' as the legs are that much longer.

They don't have to be.

the sit back was where it went astray. it got caught on the front of the pulley, then the rope had direct contact against the heat shrink.
in that sense, i like spliced eyes better.

mr banjo. I am the guiltiest of the guiltiest about having to many slings and jangles all over the place, leading to me getting all knotted up sometimes. Spliced eyes have helped me corral my problem. and keeping things neat and tidy. I pay the price when I buy those expensive splices, but right now, in my mind its worth it
