Great Expectations?

expecting way too much from both the tree (hinge wood) and the pulling set up (mechanical advantage/floating anchor too slow).

Looked liked the top was back leaning and the hinge gave way before it reached upright/C.o.G, also chasing the cut to leave no hinge

Astounding -

Also, difficult to tell lean from that perspective but it obviously fell sideways off the notch/intended path of direction. Maybe severed the hingewood on his side ...or just too much weight on the pole side.

Inches from videoing his own death.

The mistake on that was not taking into account that pole that was there. Had that pole not been there, the piece wouldn't of hit the fence or smashed his face.
Or, he could have taken a smaller top

I've noticed accidents usually take a combination of factors. No doubt a few in this vid. Would've been one to see with a camera on his head view . The way the piece let the gravity take over shows the hinge didn't get to do its job. Shot like that in the head has to wake ya up if it didn't put you to sleep.

no it would've demolished the fence, better for his face though.

The hinge snapped (or was cut through) then the top fell onto the pole/lines deflecting it towards him.

Why not fell it. Seems like there was enough room? Also it seems there wasnt enough mechanical advantage. Tough saying from a video.

Yup, tough saying from a video. I hate taking huge tops like that while I am in the tree. Thats a lot of material that has to pass you. i would rather take 5 small pieces that one HUGE one. But like you said, tough saying from a video.

He probably saw that small tippy top aspect leaning away from the pole as compensating for the heavy trunk lean....not. Videoing it says to me he thought he was doing something marginal/exciting. Like Worthaug said...if that was the case...why not reduce danger by going basal cut?

and pow right in the kisser, pain is a great educator and having been in similar situations in the past myself I hope he takes the offered opportunity to reassess the whats and whys it went bad then be grateful for the chance to be still able to do so :tarjetaroja:.
would I like to be smacked like that no thank you I'm good cheers.

I thought I read he thought he was doing something magical/exciting.. I think that a lot when I see tree vids. Even if the guy doesn't get fucked up
