Great advertisement

We're already having a lot of fun with this video on the other thread, but I'll throw out something new here. In the video at around 0:19, he does the big swing. I see that sort of thing occasionally in videos, but does anyone actually do that in a production environment? Maybe it's not really my skill set so I don't look at a tree and think "I'll just do a massive swing to access that side of the tree." Seems like interfering branches, being in a bad position relative to the TIP, etc. make it impractical most of the time. I guess I'll have to try it at some point. I picture something dangling from my saddle hooking a branch mid-swing, yanking me to a stop and leaving me where I don't want to be.

We used to use a contract climber who did big swings at times; he one time removed five 120’ Tulip Poplars from one tie in, by swinging at times 30’+ from one tree to another.

Some trees lend themselves to it. It can cut down on the hard work, and it’s a lot of fun. However, I don’t run into a lot of awesome opportunities. When I see it, though, I take it.
