GRCS Questions?????

1.Could anyone tell me what the common model of winch that the New GRCS's are coming Supplied with?

2. Using a DWT, what kind of lifting capacities have people been able to achieve?( perhaps people with access to a dynamometer.) so as to give some actual numbers.

3. I have recently torn a couple of the rubber mounts on the back of my unit and was wondering if anyone amongst the tinkering crowd have experimented with some alternative materials?

The new winches are the model 44. 2000 lb safe working load rating, but capable of much more of course. If you're tearing mounts, on take downs, better use the visor attachment. If you're tearing mounts on trims you might rethink how you're going about it.

Mr. Good! Nice of you to drop in the Buzz.

The GRCS is the best thing since sliced bread!

I appreciate your responding to these questions, I have had more fun with this machine than any other piece of equipment I own. I am addicted to Rigging and this thing just opens up a whole new world of opportunity. So thanks Greg and any one else involved in creating this machine.

The torn bumpers are most definitely user error. We were rigging a wet large Hackberry with very rough bark and at the time it was not yet set for Removal, so the visor plate stayed in the truck. Hind sight I should have tightened the Strap myself, to ensure it's state of Snugness.

Why do the catalogs say that it is a 22:1 and 44:1 gear reduction when the website for harken say's something else? Is it that I don't understand how to calculate the Mechanical advantage?

The Hockey puck will not damage the tree unless the GRCS moves. Since the puck is a tougher material than the original footing it has a greater chance of ripping the bark/cambium. I've never seen our GRCS move but I have seen pics on here of one running up the tree durring a removal. I guess make sure to check and recheck that the GRCS is properly installed and there should be no problem.

Just make sure you recess the bolt hole in the puck. Otherwise the bolt, not the puck, will contact the tree.

So I ended up finding a bag of four of the rubber feet for my GRCS at a local tool supplier for 8 dollars. Figured that custom making something was not at all worth it after finding this.

The low gear is 12.4-1.....high 45.3-1..based on the model winch you have. The chrome Harken on the latest GRCS is the B-46 model, which means its highgear is 46-1.

Here's the specs: http://www2.harkenstore.com/uniface.urd/scpdinw1.ShowProd?409Z56LC8CUAA Gear reduction and power ratio numbers are different. The power ratio is determined by the length of the handle.
