Gordon's new Dogbone update

Hey everyone,

Gordon just past along a new bollard for the dog to me and i did a couple climbs with it.

Here is the great news. I used a Black diamond 9.6 and the bone bit the snot out that slick dynamic rope. I jumped and
Swun from the high deck trying to make it give. Had it ,rope, through a two friction ring top rope caribinered to left side of belt, dog bone on right. No slip.

Used another rope. Blue water 11.2mm that has never bit in my rig and has always creeped, well, no more. Had it rigged the same way. It was solid!!!
Fatties, like me, unite!!!! The Dog Bone is ours now!!!!!!! Hahahahahahaha

Tim has a new design bollard in place of the adjustable bollard. The bollard is both elongated and tapered (fatter at the top end, and is proud of the top arm so it creates a camming action against the friction pin as the top arm engages). In the picture you see the small end of the bollard. The bollard pivots, but does not rotate. @Timothytree, how does the new bollard tend? Are you using it on the 9.6mm rope in a DdRT configuration only? Does it release smoothly when you initiate release? The bollard is the same alloy as the spine (7075 aluminum)

Hi Gordon,

It is super smooth!!!!!!!!!!

I am gonna do some single rope work today and I will give a full update on how it operated on the ascent and desent!!!!!

Is this the update on srt performance? I would really like to hear how it performs on a 11 + mm rope in srt.

I used my New England 11 KM 111
And it worked like magic. Bit in tightly. Released smoothly and controlable.

I had other ropes in the past were unuseable and had my doubts I would be able to use them in my dogbone so I tried them out from my second story porch. Did
Multiple climbs and decends and swings with the intention making them slip. They bit tightly on the new shape bollard.

I will post more as I change the configuration of the rope. I am going to connect the dogbone in another single configuration and post results. I also am goning to do a prusic double line to check its
Preformace on all three ropes I have. The Black diamond 9.6, the Blue Water11.2, and rhe KM 11.

Sorry if the bouncing bannanas were confusing. This new update on Gordons dogbone is performing amazingly!!!!!!

@RBJtree That is the intention of this new bollard, but it is too early to say at this point. Tim has a good result with DdRT so far.
Morning all, went out and just did a single line climb on the black diamond 96 was able to get up off the ground on an assent, lock the bone, came off the upper ascender, came off of the foot ascender and the bone heald the 3/8 rope. I moved around and it started to creep. If I put chalk on that rope it would have held. Me with my belt, no boots, no saw,
I am 225 lbs. will try with some 10mm line later today. Will swing by the outdoor shop and pick some up.

I've been srt on scandere 11.7mm lately and wouldn't go smaller if I can avoid it. I look forward to hearing more results, especially if someone tests it on 11mm or larger.

Hello I tested it this morning on the single rope on a 9.6 black diamond. Iwas able to undo the top ascender and the foot Ascender and the dog bone held until. I did some moving around and it started creeping.

I tested it the other day with a New England KM 111and it held and that's an 11 mm line.

Thats right I forgot you tested on km3 max. Ddrt right? The bone definitly behaves differently in srt, in my experience. I have some of that rope and it works great srt with the adjustable bone.

Yes. The weight is split between the two ropes so half is on the bone. I used the km max three days ago, while using the brass bollard, and it holds awesome. I will climb with the km max 111 and a blue water 11.2 tomorrow on single line with new bollard and post. I will get a weigh in weight too.

Good morning good morning, OK did a single recliner used my lanyard with my Capt. Hook pitched up call branch about 10 foot high send it out came off both the ascenders, lock the bone, then one-handed, grabeed the tlimb, unhooked my CaptHook. Wrapped my legs around the trunk, Sycamore tree, wrapped my hook around trunk back into lanyard line and slid down trunk about two feet with legs still wrapped around tree to simulate a fall. Les bone caught me like big ol' catchers mit. Using Km111. 11mmIMG_1042.webp

Looking good Tim, I got your video, Thank you. You may find that if you squeeze the top arm while the heel of your hand is on the lower arm, you can have very fine control. It will be interesting to see how the bollard stands up to use, but of course it is easily exchanged and can even be turned around to the other side when one side wears out. I believe that the longer spine on the Bulldog, as compared to the Akimbo, is actually an advantage because the top arm can be pulled down as far as it takes to initiate release, with out conflict with the bottom arm. Also the Bone does not make such a bend in the rope when weighted, so the release is potentially less severe. But of course I may be a bit biased : )

I agree it is very smooth. WS trying to hold phone and video, crew gum and argue with groundies all at the same time.
