Good samaritan gets the boot!

[ QUOTE ]
..However, none of us were there and don't really know if he was making the situation worse in his frantic attempts to help.

I didn't see anything in any of the reports or letters that indicated "frantic" attempts to help. It looked like he simply started helping where he saw need. The mayor's office letter pretty much spelled out a rigid approach that would guarantee to frustrate skilled volunteers. These kinds of problems came up following the Joplin mega-tornado, officials at the scene had to lighten up on their protocols and adjust on the fly when it became clear their by-the book procedures were slowing things way down and were causing more trouble than they were helping.

These extreme situations require creative problem solving, rules and regs do not provide the best answers.

Sorry, but I can't find Haege in the Cert Arbo list. Maybe he did mess up, I was there and still am (big craner on Friday) and I didn't see anyone with buckets 'volunteering'. Maybe he WAS chasing, in which case the wheel is on a whole different wagon.

Anyway it doesn't play out well, especially for the folks with absentee landlords and still no power because Xcel doesn't rebuild the masts, just connect them.

Well, if he aint on the list then maybe he isn't certified. I did see the interview with him on the news and he came off as pretty genuine. Plus there are a number of people that he did help out for free that apparently came to his defense in front of authority.

Stay safe out there Raven.

I wonder if this would have played out differently if he hadn't had machinery along. After storms all sorts of community help comes in. Ancient chainsaws, water-ski rigging rope and ladders abound. One time I saw a fella limbing up springboard limbs with a circle saw...bzzzzzinggggggggggg!

Acting like a civilian and being incognito might be a way to fly lower under the radar.
