When I lived in Texas all of these amazing story telling musicians were so accessible. There were main stream radio stations that played them. Right out the dashboard

Now I have to go looking

Satellite radio has been great for me in the car. Pick a genre, or in some cases an artist or band, and rock out.

Spent a year living in Austin in the mid 80's. i was like a fish out of water, but the music was incredible. Good music is in Texas's DNA, and part of their culture!
