Been here much more than a while
- Location
- Carlisle, Massachusetts, U.S.
Had a few people over to climb on Saturday, this multi-leader white oak fit a bunch of climbers without problem. First cold weather climb of the season, all good.
Two climbers fresh from the Women's Tree Climbing Workshop (WTCW), Petersham, Mass. that happened in October. Another climber is our most senior in age for the group, a lifetime worth of adventure behind him; arctic explorer, and alpine/mountaineering expeditions. He took up tree climbing a year and a half ago and quickly moved to SRS/Rope Wrench. I can only hope to still be climbing when I get to his wise age.
For his climb he set his rope on one of the lower limbs on the high-crowned forest tree, climbed up SRS on a basal anchor, advanced MRS using the other end of his rope, then switched back to the wrench SRS at his high point with just enough rope to get back to the ground on the same basal anchor. And then climbed back up/and down to his his TIP to keep warm and smooth his ascent motion with his home-built knee ascender setup. Easy student to coach, he knows how to manage rope very well and has quickly grasped the climbing systems.
Got to treat the climbers right
New climber fresh from the WTCW, completely ready to go to the next level. In this climb she tested a Tree Motion Super Light. It will be her first harness, fit and comfort was excellent.
On a cold day the tall white pines cut the sun off pretty quickly in the afternoon, climbing up to get back into the sun helps
As the sun hit the horizon two WTCW climbers are reluctant to leave the tree, they had some catching up to do
