My boy badgered me into a rec climb a couple of weeks ago. I'm not an intense activity or sport oriented parent and I definitely don't push tree climbing on my kids. When I first started climbing I got him a saddle, he was 4, and we climbed some but now I'm all burnt out and not keen to climb always. He's always on me about climbing though and I finally relented. On the way out the door he asks me, "you're bringing your camera right?"

We edited the footage together and he picked the song. Unbelievably proud of this little dude.

Your a really good Dad. If your kid continues on in this field he will be so comfortable in a tree. I like the clip where your showing him how to jump from limb to limb. That is such a great way to gain trust in his equipment!! Not too many of his class mates are getting to do that on the weekends. Very cool!! OH, and I think you should encourage him to climb more. Not in an overwhelmingly beauty pageant kinda way, but I think that kid is a natural. Your looking at a future champion right there!!

That looked like a lot of fun. Can't wait until my children are a few years older so we can do that.

I hang them off the stairs and swing them around a bit.

And the perfect tenacious d song to fit the bill. They're great.. The futures looking bright for that lad. I gotta do some more rec in with my kids. This video inspired me to get off my lazy ass. Thank you

I think it's out of my hands at this point. Even if I totally cut him off he'd probably get a tree job as soon as he could just to show me up!

His little bro has been affectionately known as 'young nasty man' for quite awhile now. It wasn't just his climbing that I found impressive, he did really well with the editing and the music choice was top notch for sure.

Way cool. I got a gear set for my grandkids last summer. Hope to put it to good use this summer when I go up to PA.

What an awesome little man. I love that watermelon hat! My boys enjoy swinging for now. Couple more years and they'll be up there with me.

@rockettree , your kid has better fundamental techniques then a couple of lads learning to climb at my work , seriously cool vid man , he has a really good amount of confidence in the tree. How many climbs has the little fella had? ps nice shooting the gap at the end too mate

He's climbed 3 or 4 times a summer for the last 5 years or so.

He has watched a ton of tree climbing, I'm sure that has helped.

Thanks for the props.

Very cool. As soon as I saw his smile I realized that a saddle would be a great Christmas present for my 9 year old.
Thanks.

Truly awesome video Ray! My youngest (now 7) has been climbing for 3 years. She climbs everything... monkey-style. I'm really impressed with your youngster's skilled swings, confidence, and control. Thank you for sharing!
