Gear contribution

I'm just curious what other companies offer employees for their (personal) gear. I'm talking the everyday tools that are pretty much assigned to each person. Lots of guys prefer to use their own. If that's the case, how is maintenance handled? if you provide an allowance, is the gear the employees property once purchased?

My company provides gear upon request of the request is reasonable for the climber and their skill set. They don't throw fancy stuff at the new climbers, but give them above average equipment. The company retains ownership of all equipment they buy, but the climber is responsible for the maintenance. If they leave the company they can choose to keep and pay for the stuff or return it.

If I need standard type gear my boss will buy it for me if I ask. New hires are provided with basic gear. All the gear bought by the company is owned by the company. I just buy my own gear because I like to own my stuff...

We currently provide basic gear to all of our climbers. (Same as above really, if a request is made its usually facilitated) Recently a couple new hires are choosing to use their own saddles ropes and climbing saws. So that being said, there's a fine line with upkeep and replacement of that gear and although I'm all for paying for any wear and tear occurring on my watch I don't want to sponsor their weekend activities either.
