gear bags

I have always used the Bashlin bags. The orange Nylon one is my favorite. Completely waterproof and has a flap that folds over the top and clips closed to keep water out of there too. Check them out on Bashlins site. No wheels though.

I've got a big duffle bag that I bought from gander mountain that has wheels and you could probably fit a small person inside. It'll hold spikes rope bag throw bag and almost everything else.

I've been using a large military bag that would hold everything. No wheels, and apart from the tendency to disappear from view too easily in the summer woods, the only problem I've had with it is that the freakin' thing EXPLODED AT THE SEAMS when I washed it a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm in the market too...

Fish makes a nice haul bag that will survive a drag up the granite at Yosemite it surely will survive baggage handlers.

I have an Eagle Creek rolling duffel that can be made into a half-a$$ed back pack that has traveled with me since ISA was in england...what...3 years ago??? Still in pretty good shape. Made the trip over here to Germany in fine shape.

Check out what Sierra Outfitters might carry

I have the yellow "dr's bag" from sherrill which is alittle expensive but nice. Another bag that I've had for around 10 years is a dive bag. It has taken lots of abuse and has held up flawlessly. I expect to get many more years of use from it. I also have a Basspro boat bag which is a well made bag. I have the medium size that is used for pruning saws, clippers, etc. It doesn't get a lot of abuse but I think it will take it. They also make a larger one with wheels.

I had a gift card to bass bro and picked up the same bag eric uses and so far love it. Keeps everything dry and is holding up great.

Greg,

Those duffels look great! The price seems reasonable too. Be careful not to get too big a bag if you're going to fly. when the airlines say that the weight limit is fifty pounds, they mean 50...not 51...I know from experience. If the baq is too heavy you give up some gear weight.

Flying with gear is tough. When I went to Australia, I packed just the facts. Nothing extra. I put throw weights, biners, etc in a carry on as that doesn't get weighed. I also stuck a rope (150ft) and helmet in my carry on.

I am interested in the Petzl Transport anyone have this bag?

I took an old suitcase /w wheels, removed the cheap hard plastic wheels held on with hollow 'rivet'-like fasteners, and replaced them with a pair of replacement Rollerblade wheels on stainless steel axles (You can get the parts at a decent Sporting Goods Store). Hold up a whole lot better to the weight, are quieter, and cushion the load over the cracks in the pavement and the escalators in the airpports.

I've been using haul bags for years with great results. A bit pricey but if you look at cost and not price they are priceless.

I use and old Lowe Alpine backpack to haul my gear around. Has enough room to hold all gear plus hold the extras on the outside mesh pockets. Some people think I am going to Yosemite or Rainer.

I picked up a nice big duffel bag from Goodwill. Works great for only $5. I had to keep an eye out for awhile, but there is usually some old luggage at the thrift stores.
