Gear bags backpack?

Another vote for metolius. I have the Express haul pack, lighter and smaller than their haul bags. It fits 200' rope, flipline and lanyard, sadlle with suspenders and a decent bit of climbing gear. Might squeeze a helmet in one with a shorter rope and less bulky saddle. They make bigger sizes as well. I think I'm getting close to 10yrs on mine and its certainly worn out but I can't bring myselft to replace it yet.

. . . A small cheap tarp and luggage cinch straps would work well also.
I have a small tarp that is actually the removable rain fly off a little tent I used to have. Thin, really tough, tear-proof fabric, and about 5ft x 5ft, nice green colour for stealth rec climbing. Wads up about the size of an orange when I am not using it.

i use the metolius and black diamond 70 liter haulbags and prefer the metolius. the black diamond‘s are too stiff. i like stuffing everything in there haha

lack of compartments is a deal breaker.

I use 'parachute bags' for little things and a variety of mesh bags totake the place of pockets.

Any sail shop and some shoe repair shops can add pouches and strap eyes to a haul bag. Fish used to have vids of dropping pigs full of real gear to show how tough their bags are.

I understand the OP was looking for a single bag. I’ve gone back and forth over the years from a single pack to a modular style. Cross-loading from one truck to another really benefits from a single bag. That eventually lead to matching kits in each truck.

Problem for me is I need to be prepared for lots of different situations in the work setting, and it never all really fits into one bag with the helmet and spikes. Those two items always seem to sit on their own.

If I was primarily rec’ing, I could do it with a much smaller kit. Having the modular components in each truck allows me to grab only what I need and carry it a short distance to the tree leaving all of what I don’t need back in the box.

For day to day I prefer duffle-style vs backpack. Treehog 70L has lasted longer than expected. Generally have rope bag and spur bag separate but can stuff it all in the duffle if a long walk.

Current bag is a Courant duffel style back pack. It lives in the truck saddle box and is nice because of how it opens. Leaving it in the box, I pull a panel down and grab what I want. If I have a hike, the whole bag comes out. Helmet on my head. Saddle on. Rope bag of choice goes into the duffel.

I really like the Black Diamond haul bag I've been using for years because the material is very tough and its simply constructed. It's just one giant tube with backpack straps and a small zipper pocket inside where I keep a scrench, ppe and gloves. The material is VERY stiff and durable and the bag stands on it's own. Many sizes to choose from ranging from big to absolutely enormous. More than $100 but will probably outlast most any bag on the market. I've been using mine for at least 10 years now.
