Furniture from our waste

I also take part in the use of waste. The top is white oak which I got off of an arborist. The base is made of spruce from a take down of mine.

love seeing all that wonderful woodwork. it sure can be hard to get a piece of wood to an artist, or, more importantly, to get the artist to come pick it up in a timely manner like, for instance, right NOW.

When my grandfather died a few years ago, my dad made this bench with the help of a fellow with a mill and big tools somewhere in Houston. The end pieces came from the crotch of a post oak in my parent's back yard. The fellow with the mill ended up having those nice flat boards (also post oak) "just lying around". i think it is a super cool design - only 6 pieces! make one =).

I've had a chance to give some wood to a turner. She came and got it the afternoon I cut it, went straight home to seal them in wax. It was from a big prunus cerasifera 'atropurpurea' - the wood inside was reddish purple immediately after cutting, beautiful, went to brown within 15 minutes. I wish i'd kept up with her to see her product.

Nice work to everyone. It all looks cool. I thought I was crazy collecting pieces of wood with the idea of building something out of it. I guess Im not the only crazy out there.
