greenman,
Rock climbing on full dynamic rope, the longest freefall leaderfall I've ever took was about 25 feet. You barely feel it. Never fallen more than a few feet on tree rope, actually can't even remember doing so, ever, except a swinging fall or twenty back into the trunk. However, a few years ago, I was removing a maple, and had just moved past a major fork. I was off balance on the one side when i gaffed out and fell five to seven feet straight onto my steel core flip line. Believe me, that woke me up!! another four feet, and I'd bet I'd have been going home for the day. Five more could have broken my back. A lot of us westerners seldom set a lifeline when doing removal. personally, I'm doing it more and more and teaching/recommending the same to others.
