From Germany new false crotch

greenman,

Rock climbing on full dynamic rope, the longest freefall leaderfall I've ever took was about 25 feet. You barely feel it. Never fallen more than a few feet on tree rope, actually can't even remember doing so, ever, except a swinging fall or twenty back into the trunk. However, a few years ago, I was removing a maple, and had just moved past a major fork. I was off balance on the one side when i gaffed out and fell five to seven feet straight onto my steel core flip line. Believe me, that woke me up!! another four feet, and I'd bet I'd have been going home for the day. Five more could have broken my back. A lot of us westerners seldom set a lifeline when doing removal. personally, I'm doing it more and more and teaching/recommending the same to others.

I recently was told how to do this redirect. I've seen it two ways. One way was to put a micro pulley above the prussik and then use the tail end of your rope to pull it out. The other way, I'm still not sure of, but you pull your lines back and forth to pull out your prussik. I've only used the first methode, but I'm not to keen on attaching a micro obove the prussik .

Thanks
Greg

I've seen Tony and Chad's false crotch. The nice thing about the setup is that the climber's rope runs through a pulley alone. Not a pulley and biner. NIce and smooth.

I haven't climbed on one yet though.

Another variation on this idea is the static removable false crotch. This setup is illustrated on paage 100 of the Art and Science of Practical Rigging [ASPRn} work book. Instead of using a long rope a loop of rope and a throwline or accessory cord for retreival could be used.
