Nice. Don't you need to back the ascender up?

Isnt the croll my back up?
I kept the croll and the cord to my dual handled ascender on until I had the drt hooked up.

Sorry, didn't realize you had the croll on.

LMAO, I'm lost on the porta wrap, don't know a knot tie alot??? The pants inside the socks are so they don't get stuck in the bike chain to work??

I do like the throw bag trick, I use that for the line if I have to foot lock dub rope a long ways. Helps hold them together.

Well sir, I admit I overkilled the wraps on the porty. I could have tied a running bowline.
Will you not give me xtra points for climbing on a system that was belayable? Im sorry I called you Twinkie.
As for the socks, I just do that to look cool, and to keep my pants from screwing up the pantin.

I climb on a system like that. For footlocking I just clip my climbing line to the alpine butterfly when pulling it up that way my dual ascender is backed up being each cam is on a seperate rope. And even when rope walking I keep the butterfly there to climb my gear bag onto once up to the top. And if at the ideal TIP always nice to not have to worry about a friction saver getting stuck if it is in the butterfly.

I'd definitely give you many extra points for using the mini porty. That's what I use for my SRT set-up. I get 5 wraps of the 7/16's static line and "cleat" the rope off on the posts. With 5 turns on the long leg, there is plenty of friction to untie the cleat hitches.

Backing up or using two attachments is not required. It is good practice though. This point needs to be clear before the myth gets spread more.

I use only the Unicender a lot of time and I've never felt at risk. If I were to be climbing into a brushy, twiggy tree I would have to attachments, maybe even three.

Having the attachments seperated from each other is a good plan. Pushing a hitch up with the upper ascender is OK but what happens if something happens that effects one of the other? Using a lower ascender or chest ascender separates the two attachments by some distance. The chance of something affecting both is much more remote than if they're ganged together.

I thought mechanical ascenders needed to be backed up. Or is this just a competition rule?

Comp rule..which is so inconsistent to me.

If a person wanted to use ascenders for going up a tree in comp they are required to 'back them up'. But...if they use hitches they don't. Inconsistencies have driven me crazy since I was five years old.

I am NOT saying that it isn't a good idea to have two points of attachment [different than a backup] but hitches should be backed up too. There isn't a huge body of study other than work in the field and anecdotal experiences when it comes to hitches. Hitches do work and are extremely safe, when configured and used correctly. Same goes for mechanicals, except that the uses have been tested quite thoroughly.
