Friday's Pine

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
Nothing exciting. I initially wanted to use the speed line a lot more. It didn't work all that great as I was the only person who had done it before. I was considering speed lining the big wood but I was afraid of the lateral load on the tree. It just didn't seem prudent as I hadn't done that with logs before. See if you can pick out where the rope man tried to smash me. Was working some negative balance point cuts. Seemed to work if your rope man doesn't lock it up on you. I scrapped the idea of a gaff mounted knee ascender and just used the saka and spikecender. My prototype has too many bugs. Anyhow. Watch if you choose. Comment if you'd like.

Pretty cool, Steve. Nice work keeping the spar from rolling in the lay. That fence would have been toast, otherwise. I also liked your snap decision to swap the order of the carabiners. Great thinking on the fly.

Really solid Steve! A big tree, well executed. I'm glad to see you posting more vids. I caught the bit when your rope man snatched the piece. Do you use any kind of comm system. They're great when you work with a variety of guys on the other end of that rope... and just for breaking up the monotony when there's a groundsman who actually has a personality :sisi:.

Nice work Steve, those long slides can always be tricky with pines. Pulleys are time consuming but I've often wondered how a beaner with Hard coating or now the AG teflon would work. I would think they should slide better on long shallow angles.
