'Free Tree Guy' Crushes a House

Remember John Houseman in "The Paper Chase"?

"Suppose I write you a contract. It says: I agree for $100 to paint your apartment with white paint. Is there any difference between this and a contract which says: You agree to paint my apartment with white paint, provided I pay you $100?"

I'm waiting...

It was very windy, but not too bad. Typical 50 mph around here, we lost power but that happens with a fart.
I can punch a few holes in the news report, if you don’t have insurance then your don’t have a license nor a bond. They all go together in this state.
Also who ever said 3-4K and a min crew of 5 is smoking crack. A solid crew of 2 with the right skills could have a tree wrapped up like this in 1.5-2 days easy depending on equipment and wood. I’d error on 2.5 days if wood had to go, but wouldn’t put 3k on that job..

Yikes, we all know this, but someone who will take a tree down 'for the wood' is usually not someone who knows or cares what they are doing. Homeowner didn't want to pay for a removal with an actual company, and the unlicensed and uninsured rando, dropped a 140' fir through the NEIGHBORS house.

Oooomfg that’s fucking insane I’m
I wonder where the liability will land.

Does the smashed house insurance company go after tree cutter and , seemingly, come up empty
Handed or go after tree owner for hiring uninsured.
this is right where my head went like yeah how does one deal with this it seems it could ruin peoples lives financially (homeowner & asshat neighbor who hired the dude) I’d like to know what happens after

'Hitman Tree Service' was the person on the newscast providing commentary. That makes me chuckle.

Cant get it to play.
Works for me. I posted it here just today without doing a search. I see it happened a week ago. We've had some winds and wild-ish weather of late. The cutter was clearly in over his head, but, besides never tacking the huge tree, he should have backed off due to the winds... He could face criminal charges, imo.

I would have.... depends of the position of the tree, of course. I'm now retired, as you prolly know, young feller, but do know that the going rates are likely higher here and in that high rent 'hood compared to Whidby.

Zero doubt that the tree owner is 100% responsible. His insurance won't put up a fight, imo, but may well give him a lot of grief and either cancel his policy or sue him for the damages. The cutter should and could face criminal charges, but likely has little or no assets to go after. If he is a homeowner, look out, fella...

That'll buff right out.

Here’s what I’d like to know: Is firewood that hard to come by in that area? So much so you’d be possessed to do some cowboy shit like that? Hypothetically, say it did go according to plan, all that slash would take days to deal with with only a pickup truck.. then you have to collect/haul your payment (the logs). Seems like the juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

~$200-$300 a cord +/- green/dry. most in the city don't burn, and the coldest waves in the winter typically involve a atmospheric inversion aka burn ban unless its your primary source of heat.
