I appear to be insane in this one but its just cuz I had not slept in 2 days and was high on chainsaw fumes and adrenaline.

Ok so Mel knows what this will do to his tree. We are taking out the two big leads that make up the top 1/3.
This will move the COG away from the house.

I have discussed other pruning options and removal for over a decade with this guy since we do all his trees once a year. He finaly asked me the other day if I knew of any safe companies that coyld top it. This is when I gave in and gave him a bid to remove the top 1/3.

I suggested be build a yurt up there to shade the tree and to give me a better base of operations. It would work and look amazing. The options for building off off the final cut are endless(in my mind) but he does not seem to gel with it. Mabey a nice canvase canopy of some kind. I think if the sun does not kill the tree from exposure, this will be fine. Fine as long as it does not STILL fall on the house after being slammed by a 90 mph micro burst. More and m or common every monsoon as far as I can tell.

Here is a little footage of the top...after I topped it a bit some years ago...just the begginning of this vid.

If you have given the client all the information, I would not lose any sleep over it. It is the clients tree and he does have the final say. Why should another company get the opportunity to steal your client?

Nowhere in the Bible does it say "Thou shall not top trees". You will not go to hell and suffer for eternity. Its called the reality of life. As a side note- wild cherry hard lemonade? Are you kidding me? Thats just a girl drink drunk.

recommend guying the tree with cables???

dude we all do some shady pruning from time to time. i always feel bad when im asked to top trees to turn them into hedges. i often do it depending on the species. dont beat yourself up mang. it looks hideous to take the top out of a pine sure but from what i have seen is pines recover pretty quickly and they tend to send out roots appropriately. if your loosing sleep over it, try bringing up the topic of guying/cabling the tree.

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago. A 50 foot blue spruce between two house right on lake Ontario. The tree should come down because the ground is starting to heave when the wind blows, but the client does not want the tree down because it blocks there bedroom window from the their neighbor. So I topped fifteen to twenty feet out to bring it down to the peek of the house, that will keep the brunt of the wind of it I hope.

I just got the go ahead for 40% crown reduction of Euro Beech.
Its not our fault the tree was the wrong tree for the location and was allowed to grow to big for its first prune.
Just hope it looks fair at the end of the prune because the neighbourhood will never forgive me.
Still better than cutting it down and I will most likely be back to do it again in a few years.

Try to remember, we can only do our best and if that isn't good enough, atleast it was our effort and not a real nasty hacker.

Dude the solo work you did was way impressive!! very creative , well thought out and the execution was spot on man.

I know that it is not as beautiful as it once was, but for the amount of material removed, I don't think it looks too bad. Far better than a removal, at least to me. What kind of pine again?

The rigging looked fun and made me jealous and I know that sometimes you just want to do an awesome zip-line job, but would it have been feasible to use a crane and make 2 cuts and roll? I'm just lazy that way and was wondering if it was a viable option. And along the same lines, what would you estimate the height of said tree? Never been to Phoenix and have no frame of reference.
