Forester chains

We have been using these chains at work for a while now and it seems like lately whether they got a bad run of them or what I have no idea but we have been breaking at least one chain every 2-3 weeks. It's not from sharpening. We have had brand new chains break within a couple hours of use. We have had ones with teeth that are tweaked to the sides. They must be cheaply made with as fast as we go through them. We dug through the truck one day and had six or better that had busted. I can see if they'd been sharpened wrong by the new guy or something like that but we've put them on with new bars and still snap.

Send them back to the manufacturer with a letter explaining the situation. They may have an answer for you or at the least will look into it.

Ditto.
That's gotta be nerve racking. Are they properly tensioned? What's the pitch, gauge and length? Are they all the same chain that's breaking?
In the long run, you get what you pay for.

Norm, You're the one that taught me proper tensioning and what not. They're all the same chains breaking. They're the chains for the trim saws.

I had this problem a few months ago. I sent what I had left back to AEI, they reimbursed me. It was junk chain. They sent me a reel of another brand, "Carlton" I think. It has worked better so far.

We have had the same problem at work as well. We informed management and started receiving Stihl chains in return. Much better quality.

no, i think forester has cheap products. their bars doesn't last very long either. some things it's ok to skimp on. others it isn't.

Do you 'have to' use them. Is it possible to go out and purchase a "Stihl" saw chain and get reimbursed? The potential for someone to get hurt bad by a breaking chain sounds very high. A chain rotating at 55mph is going 81 feet per second.

Woodland Pro chain from Baileys is just fine, too. Many rolls bought and used, all fine, NEVER had a broken chain the 7 years I've used it.

I have run Stihl chain, and can't justify the difference in price between it and the WP.

Also, WPro is pretty much the same chain as the Oregon brand also sold in Baileys, just cheaper and not as pretty (no chrome). Maybe it doesn't stay sharp AS LONG as the pretty stuff, but I can't tell a difference.

I don't buy junk, either, nor do I spare expense for great tools, but this is one exception. Not the best, but not getting hosed either.
