Just putten this out there to think about. Not gonna say anything more about it for right now, you figure it out. Tryed to brain storm this with Dicky boner but he laughed at me. Doesn't like Pittsburgers, like me. His wife makes him live there; must be a Browns fan. (Glen, you're such a good teacher; not everything happens in philly, huh?)

Anyway I'm not coming back here for a while; dealign with anot her thread i want to finish. I'll let you all ruminate on it and see what we can come up with...Bob Weber

Liking your thinking, Bob.
I'm 55 and more tired / less ambitious than I'd like to be most tree days, so thinking about an easier way to skin a cat interests me...not quite enough yet to start drilling holes in a Jameson pole, but the concept sounds definitely cool.
Sliding track mounted on outside of pole, flip-down spring loaded locking aluminum foot pegs...I can almost visualize this enough to want to attempt it. Winter project mebbe.

I've wondered about this a few times myself. I've dealt with roofing and some steeplejack work in the past, so I'm well familiar with chicken ladders and walk boards. I've also seen the single pole ladders designed for tree stand access and wondered if they would work freestanding or not. Many of them seem like the center pole isn't strong enough without the tree adding support.

No need to complicate the step setup

Using cord or webbing and a bit of tubing to make a stirrup foot loop is simple. Add enough wraps like in a rope ascending system on the pole would work fine

That's what I do! ditty bag on the harness full of different length slings.

I had a guy asking me to replace lightbulbs on some stout square poles about 30 feet up. I turned it down.
If i had thought of that, I would have tried it. Klemheist grabs everything, right?
