Flying squirrels

Some darn good news
I use dotted glazing on the windows of my home adjacent the bird feeders and it is extremely effective a preventing bird strikes. The brand I bought is called “FeatherFriendly”

Last week I came across a guy signed "PHC" spraying a cedar hedge "for mosquiitoes". I asked him what he was spraying and he spoke in ESL some non-memorable name and when I asked him to show me the warning sign on the property the sign was unspecifed/unnamed "pesticide". At least I wasn't directly downwind. I've met quite a few people in that neighbourhood who figure their cancer-lost spouse was due to living adjacent to the pesticide-ban-exempt golf course.

derail. carry on

An interesting contrast: prune back to a lateral, vs only cut up to 30(?)% dia laterals off the spar to not leave big wounds.

My parents put up a bat house on the side of their house. Normal sized, we counted 84 bats come out of it one evening . Its a pretty cool scene. Lots of bat poop. I put up a bat house in a tree close to my house here 2 years ago and so far nothing. There are plenty of bats flying around at night. They probably prefer the abandoned houses... although there are fewer and fewer of them around here as well.
