Fixed costs of crane ownership

That is just a nice size crano. Look at that tree top beached on the bed. How do you fit anything bigger into that spot? We picked maybe 8 of those size.

That leads to another point...you will need a bigger boat....you will also need a bigger log truck, bigger stump grinder, bigger saws, bigger chip truck...and bigger chipper. Don't want to slow down the production of your crane and crew.

You said it. The crane you have in that picture is what I am looking at. Something rear mount, with room to lay to log or two on the bunk. I like the option of jumping off the crane to help with slings, or cut a piece or something. Not that I want to do that all the time, but the option is nice.
I am leaning towards it. I just want to hire one more really good, skilled person to work for me. Then, I will make the move into the crane world.

You have a good handle on it like you do on most stuff. You are def. ready. Don't forget the comm sets...that will make "one really good, skilled person" in no time.

I pay 3k annually for crane insurance/pick insurance.

WOW, that is cheap. I could pay that in one day! I don't think cranes are really that more expensive than other equipment. I think they get a bad rep. Like TreeVet said, just earn the money!!

And hopefully they never have to find out, and everyone can continue rolling happily along. You with your low rates, and the insurance company, making a profit and seeing no need whatever to raise the rate on a company with zero claims.
