First impression - SS Port-a-wrap/1/2" Polydyne

First impression - SS Port-a-wrap/1/2\" Polydyne

So I was lifting a tree off a house last week and needed another rigging line. I had 200' of brand new 1/2" Polydyne on the truck so I sent Jared to Sherrills to pick up another block, a redirect pulley and a Porty. They still have the SS for the same price as powder coated so I got one.

That is one smooooth friction device. Couldn't really tell on the house job but the next day we had a big red oak to rig out.

I sent Jared up and I ran rope while he rigged pieces from 20' storm sprouts to 12" x 12' logs. I felt like a friggin pro, I was running pieces and swinging them within 2' of a roof and landing'em all in a nice longways pile... I am NOT that good on ropes but the SS Porty made me look like a pro.

The Polydyne was prolly a factor because it's unusually soft and flexible for a rigging rope, more so than Stable Braid. We didn't drop anything big on it, the logs were all static cuts with a balancer so I can't vouch for the extra shock absorption just yet. Sweet rope though, easy to knot, fairly light.

Anybody who feels like the regular large Porta-Wrap has too much friction for anything but logs will like the stainless version because it makes running light pieces as easy as heavy ones. If you want a 1/2" rigging line for use with a block you could do a lot worse than Polydyne. I can't rave about it yet cuz I've only used it on 4 jobs but so far I like it as least as much as Stable Braid. Combined with the SS Porty it's the nicest running/lowering setup I've ever used for wood under 1500 pounds and it's just as good with 75 pound wood.

Just rigged a 75 year old forest style Scarlet Oak the other day with the large ss porty, steel cmi block and 5/8" polydyne (was used to a med powder coated porty and 1/2" stable braid, same block) and it was a blast. Those tools inspire confidence and perform like champs! 300lb chunks were easily lowered with one wrap and one hand.

My groundie likes the SS porty better than the black one. He even likes how it runs with smaller loads better than the aluminum bollard on the GRCS

I've been using the Dynasorb ( polydyne ) for a while, love it, it's almost all I use now.
