Finally got me a chipper, went with a older refurbished instead of newer

Location
Brevard
So I’ve been without a chipper for a few weeks now. My bandit 1590 blew up when the anvil came off and went through it. I was trying to figure out what I wanted and I couldn’t decide to go with a new chipper or get a used chipper. After doing a lot of research I desided to go with a pre-emission chipper with low hrs. I ended up finding a bandit 1890 with a 200hp Cummins in Alabama. Went down and got it and I tell you what. They don’t build these things like they used to!! This thing is a beast. Also buying a bandit 250xp for smaller jobs. If anyone ever had one of these older 1890 and have any advice about them let me know

I’d like to Hear more about the anvil eating aftermath. Sounds like that could have been pretty exciting. Did it stop the disc/drum? or launch high velocity projectiles

It was the Most violent thing I’ve ever heard in my life, in 30 seconds my anvil came through an broke off all of my blades and slung my anvil through the housing of my drum through the housing of the motor and into the motor oil cooler. Bullet holes all over the shoot. Broke the drum bearings and destroyed the entire belly pan. Me and my guys literally got down and prayed after it was all over because we are lucky no one got hurt. I had too guys feeding it and I was above it in my bucket truck trimming limbs.

How many hours were on the one that lost the anvil?

I had about 4500 hrs on it. I never had one issue with that machine!! That was the best chipper a service could ask for. For 8 years all I did was change the oil blades and anvil. Apparently the last time the anvil got changed they didn’t torque the bolts to spec
