Favorite hitch for SRT ascent?

That thinner rope seems to work best with a supple and broken in hitch cord. Memory in the hitch can hold it collapsed, and I've seen that 11mm Kernmaster can really thin out when loaded when compared to unloaded. Not to say it's a problem, just to say it will change how the hitch will perform. Thanks for sharing the info on the Knut.

Now I'm ready to try out the Coopers Hitch, as well as some of the mods that YoYoMan suggested, ie. twisting the lines or reversing the connection direction.

Thanks for that Richard.

I think I should try testing my SRT hitch by foot locking the line while the hitch is slack and then throw my weight onto it. Close to the ground, of course. Better to not assume the hitch will grab in a scenario like that.

The knut sounds like a good hitch. I will try it. Today I climbed for a few hours and used my same 4 wrap-3 braid VT, except I attached the karabiner to the hitch cord on the same side as the final cross. It has a lot less friction as you climb with your ascenders than if you attach on the other side of the line. I tested it by foot locking and then dropping my weight onto the collapsed hitch, not far from the ground. It grabbed immediately. I was glad to see it perform as intended. I would still like to try the hitches that you've all mentioned as soon as I learn to tie them. Does anyone know where to find some good illustrations of the Michoacan, Coopers, and Knut hitch?

Here's one from Moss's FB page, hope ye don't mind AJ:

That's it. At least the way I tie it, I think most folks using it put more twists below the coils. Works very well for me as shown for SRT (with wrench) or DRT. Thanks for posting it Tom!
